What a lovely fortnight we have had in 5/6. We want to commend all of our students for the way they conducted themselves during interschool sports and alternative program this term. We congratulate our teams who have progressed to the district finals, taking place this Friday morning at Newport Gardens PS.
Student Voice:
The sports we participated in for interschool sports were, hockey, footy, soccer, softball, netball and Alternative. The people who did Alternative, did judo and rugby. We are so happy to announce the scores for the final round of interschool sports...
Congratulations to all the people that made it into finals, and well done to all the people who didn't make it into finals, but still passionately participated in your sport these past seven weeks.
Going through to finals is the girls netball team, the mixed AFL and softball teams, and both hockey teams.
(Penny & Ava, 5/6C)
What's Coming up in the Classroom in the Next Fortnight:
Maths: We have also begun working on our final unit of the term, Probability. This will be a great exposure to fractions, decimals and percentages in preparation for our key work in Term 3. The term will end with key skill building in number and open-ended problem solving.
Reading: During Week 9, we will be learning about ‘push and pull factors’ of migration. We will also read about some various experiences of migration to Australia and utilise comprehension strategies of note taking and recalling key information. In Week 10, we will focus on mentor text, ‘Meet the Flying Doctors,’ a biography told through narrative.
Writing: We are busy learning about biographies and what makes an effective piece of writing. With this learning we will be drafting our own biography of someone who has experienced migration to Australia. We will be exploring some modelled and shared writing of key body paragraphs of biographies, such as early life, migration experience and achievements. This will be our second publication for the term.
Inquiry: Students will continue to undertake lessons and investigations into different aspects of Australian history, embedded throughout our reading lessons. During Weeks 9&10, we will learn about Federation, factors that contributed to Federation and key figures in history; Alfred Deakin & Henry Parkes.
Willy Kids & Respectful Relationships: This fortnight, Willy Kids are reflective. We will begin preparing our learning reflection slides for our upcoming Student Led Conferences in Week 11. This will also include using our problem-solving skills to work together in practising these presentations and providing feedback to one another.
