We hope you all had some time to recharge during the long weekend ready for the end of term which is fast approaching.
Upcoming event
Andy Griffiths the acclaimed Australian children's author is coming to Williamstown Primary School on Wednesday 25 June to do an author talk for the Grade 3/4s.
Andy has kindly offered to sign any of his books that the children currently own. If your child would like any of their existing Andy Griffiths books signed by him please bring them to their classroom teacher by Friday 20th June and he will sign them before his visit on Wednesday 25th of June.
The books must be named so that they are easily identifiable and returnable.
On the day we are asking for a gold coin donation this will be given to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation of which Andy Griffiths is an ambassador.
Fortnightly Curriculum Focus:
Literacy: In Reading, we are learning about Andy Griffith and who he is as an author. We will discuss different books Andy Griffiths has written, research and find information about Andy, explain the style of writing Andy uses and create an Author Profile on him.
In Writing, we will be using stories by Andy Griffiths to prompt our writing ideas. We will be re visiting using verbs and adjectives in writing.
Numeracy: Statistics/Data: We are learning to ask clear questions and collect data from our classmates. We are learning to interpret information through pictographs. We are learning to organise data using tally marks and create a bar graph to represent the data. We will analyse the data to draw conclusions. We will explore real-world data using weather information and online trends. We will learn how to interpret data and answer questions based on evidence.
Inquiry: This term our Inquiry question has been ‘What was life like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Australia before and after European settlement?’ We have learnt about the important contributions they have made to Australia. We have learnt about the importance of astronomy and the dreamtime for The First Australians and Torres Strait islander people, the history and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, including their migration to Australia, different tribal groups, and the many languages they speak. We have also learnt about the traditional food, hunting, and gathering practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and how they compare to the ways we get our food today. We have learnt about housing, clothing, fires (cold burning) and weapons & tools.
We are learning about the causes and reasons for the First Fleet coming to Australia and the impacts of colonisation.
Child wise/Respectful Relationships: Evaluating problem solving strategies. We will develop an understanding that different problems can require different types of problem-solving strategies. We will identify a range of strategies they use to solve problems. We will evaluate strategies to see if they are effective for the problem
