Year Two Team News

with Steph, Joel and Rochelle

Hello Year Two families,

It has been another busy couple of weeks in Year Two. In Writing, our students have begun planning for and drafting their narratives about ‘The Egg,’ and it has been wonderful to feel the excitement in each classroom during these Writing sessions.

We are proud of the growth mindsets our students have shown as we have conducted a variety of different assessments over the past few weeks for our mid-year reports. It has been fantastic to celebrate all the hard work the students have done so far this year and we look forward to sharing the information with you shortly.

Last week, the Grade 2 classes recognised the importance of Reconciliation week by reading a story and participating in an activity that reinforced the significance of First Nations Australians, their cultures, histories, and experiences. The students have developed a great understanding about the significance of Reconciliation day and in paying our respects to Indigenous Australians.

 Important news:

  • Term 2 Oral Presentation: It has been a pleasure listening to so many wonderful presentations about the people that are special to our students in Year Two. The students have spoken clearly and shown great levels of confidence in answering questions from their classmates. We look forward to hearing the remaining presentations over the coming week.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 9 - 10

Literacy: In Writing, we will be continuing to draft and publish our stories, ‘The Egg’.

Numeracy:  We will be revising some of the topics covered over the first half of the year, particularly in place value, addition, and subtraction.

Inquiry: We will be wrapping-up our inquiry unit, ‘What things are made of and why?’. To celebrate the learning students have undergone, students will identify how different materials can be combined for a particular purpose.

Willy Kids and Respectful Relationships: Through the pillar of Learning, we will be exploring the topic ‘Willy Kids are Reflective Learners’. We will be thinking about everything we have learnt this semester and sharing this with our friends and family.

Until next time,

The Grade Two Team - Steph Keswick (2K), Joel Kitchen (2J) & Rochelle White (2W)
