Recognising When Your Child Needs Extra Support

As parents, we naturally tune into our children's moods and behaviours, but sometimes it can be hard to know when everyday challenges might signal a need for additional support. All of our staff care about the wellbeing of our Willy Kids and we are here to help. Here are some signs to gently watch for:

Changes in Your Child

Look out for significant shifts from their usual patterns. A typically social child who suddenly avoids friends, or a confident learner who begins to dread school, may be telling you something important. Changes in sleep, appetite, or energy levels that persist for more than a few weeks are also worth noting.

Big Emotions, Small Triggers

While all children have ‘meltdowns’, watch for reactions that seem much bigger than the situation warrants, or emotional responses that your child seems unable to recover from with your usual support strategies.

Persistent Worries

Some anxiety is normal, but if your child frequently talks about fears that interfere with daily activities—like refusing to go to certain places, persistent stomach aches before school, or sleep difficulties due to worry—it may be time to seek guidance.

Trust Your Instincts

You know your child best. If something feels different or concerning, even if you can't quite put your finger on it, that parental intuition is valuable information.

We're Here to Help

Remember, seeking support isn't about failure—it's about giving your child the best tools for success. Our wellbeing team is always available to chat about any concerns, big or small. Sometimes a brief conversation can provide reassurance or helpful strategies.

Contact our Wellbeing Team or speak with your child's classroom teacher.
