Year 10 Visual Art Excursion

Exploring Art in Practice and Purpose

This week, our Year 10 Visual Art students took part in an enriching excursion that brought their classroom learning to life through visits to three significant arts and cultural institutions.

The day began at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, where students explored the powerful role of art in therapeutic settings. Through this visit, they gained valuable insights into how creativity can support emotional wellbeing and healing, an inspiring introduction to the field of art therapy.

At the Griffith University Art Museum, students engaged with the 50th Anniversary Exhibition, featuring works from celebrated alumni and prominent Australian artists including Tracey Moffatt, Gordon Bennett, Archie Moore, and D Harding. This experience sparked meaningful conversations about artistic legacy, cultural commentary, and the evolution of Australian visual art.

The excursion concluded with a visit to GOMA to view the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art exhibition. Surrounded by the innovative works of Queensland’s most talented senior students, our budding artists found motivation and fresh ideas for their own upcoming self-directed projects.

We thank our Visual Art teachers for coordinating this inspiring day and our students for their thoughtful engagement throughout the experience.
