Term 2, Week 10
And just like that our second term of Foundation has finished! We cannot believe how quickly the time has flown by… our Foundies have grown up so much and arrive at school each day curious and ready to take on any challenge!
We have completed our first Inquiry topic ‘Weather in our World’. Our students investigated and researched dierent aspects of weather in our world. Their work will be displayed inside the junior buildings, outside the Foundation classrooms.
Our students have enjoyed using the Heggerty’s program to develop phonemic and phonological awareness and we see the benefits of this program in our reading and writing sessions. The Foundation students continued to develop their Reading and Writing skills, linking the information to our mentor texts throughout the term. We read both fiction and non-fiction texts and used the information to develop our ideas in Writing.
In Numeracy, our focus this term was counting, understanding the place value of teen numbers in terms of tens and ones, addition, collecting data and measurement. Over the holidays you may like to continue to look for everyday opportunities to talk about Numbers which are everywhere, whether it is skip counting looking from letter box numbers as you go for a walk or simple addition stories.
We are looking forward to our Parents/Teacher interviews over the next two weeks, sharing the achievements our students have made. We will also discuss future goals for your child going into Semester Two.
