Science at BPS

Term 2, Week 10

What a busy term of biology learning we have seen in our science lab on the hill!

Our Powerful Bodies unit across the school has seen an incredible amount of learning happening through some very interesting discussions about functions of body parts, understanding how living things are classified, what various living things need and looking at how living things have adapted to ensure the survival of their species.

A highlight for many students this term was the visit of Tio the guinea pig.  Tio helped the students understand what is important for living things to stay alive. I hear many students have tried to persuade their families to adopt some guinea pigs for a pet! ( They are definitely an easy pet to have in your family).

An ongoing focus of our science program is looking in detail at the Scientific Method and how important each step of the process is to ensuring scientific accuracy in any test or experiment we do.

We explore each of  the various steps of a scientific investigation through understanding the variety of skills used at every stage of the process.

Science Day

We are counting down the weeks until Science Day which will be celebrated on Thursday 14th August (week 4 of Term 3). Our dress-up theme for the day is to Come as a Scientist you might like to be.  Do you like fungi? Then come as a mycologist.  Interested in fossils? Paleontologist is the dress-up for you. Want to be a rock and mineral expert? Be a geologist for the day. We look forward to seeing all our budding scientists on the day, where we will have a fun chemistry based incursion, some experiments and an assembly parade to celebrate our scientists.

Wishing all of our scientists a safe and relaxing winter break and I look forward to our Chemistry fun in Term 3!

Stay Curious!
