Principal's Report

How did we get to end of Term Two so quickly!
Thanks to all the staff and students for a great terms work; we should be incredibly proud of what we are doing at BPS. It has been an incredibly busy term – reports, new gym TV, cross-country, NAPLAN, student-free day, swimming, Education Week, open night, soiree, incursions and excursions! I hope that the children and teachers enjoy the very well deserved break. We look forward to everyone’s safe return for the start of term 3 on Monday 21st July.
As shared with our community via Compass, we are currently undertaking an update of the Blackburn Primary School brand. This important work seeks to honour our proud history while reflecting our ongoing commitment to excellence, innovation, and the future of education.
I am pleased to begin sharing with you some of the exciting developments that will help ensure our brand continues to represent the strong traditions, values, and aspirations of our school community.
Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 reports are now live via COMPASS. I would like to thank you once again for the ongoing support you continue to provide both your child and our teaching staff throughout the year. What has been achieved in such a short time is nothing short of outstanding.
Your child’s report outlines their progress throughout Semester 1, 2025, measured against the Victorian Curriculum. As in previous years, our teachers have allocated additional interview time this semester to ensure families have the opportunity to ask questions and receive a comprehensive update on their child’s learning and development.
We trust that both the report and the upcoming interview will provide valuable insights into your child’s growth and achievements across this semester.
As we look ahead to Semester 2, our strong partnership between home and school remains critical. Together, we will continue to support each student to build on their successes, embrace challenges, and strive for continual growth—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to your child’s educational journey.
EARLY FINISH FRIDAY
Next Friday, July 4th at 2.30pm, we will end a very busy Term 2. Please make sure your pick up arrangements are adjusted for this earlier finish. Term 3 will commence on Monday 21st July. We will be holding our assembly at 2.00pm to conclude the term.
Long term impact of The Resilience Project
Our School Wellbeing Program made headlines in The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald andBrisbane Times this month thanks to the findings of an independent evaluation by Monash University. Highlighting the importance of a long-term, whole school approach, the study found that students who had been part of our program for six or more years saw a 47% decrease in the odds for depression and a 34% decrease in the odds for anxiety, compared to students at schools that aren't delivering the program. A very big thank you to Dr Rohsini Balasooriya, Monash University and Resilient Youth Australia for making this independent evaluation possible, and an even bigger thank you to the 1,150 schools across the country for contributing to this impact!
NCCD
Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
