Springvale Rise Primary School Community Hub
Earlier this month, we welcomed Mrs. Sheena Jones, our new Tuesday English teacher, to the Springvale Rise Community Hub team. With her extensive teaching experience, Mrs. Jones has made learning English both enjoyable and engaging for our students. Each class begins with circle time, providing everyone the opportunity to speak, ask questions, and connect with one another. This practice not only fosters a sense of community but also encourages active participation and communication among students. In our recent session, we sang the 'Hokey Pokey,' a fun and interactive song that helped students practise vocabulary related to body parts and directions like 'left' and 'right.' Singing songs in English is an effective way to reinforce language skills, improve pronunciation, and boost confidence in speaking. Moreover, it adds an element of fun to the learning process, making it more memorable and motivating for adult learners. We look forward to more sessions filled with learning, laughter, and community building under Mrs. Jones's guidance.
At the Women's Wellbeing group on the Heights Campus, the women have been actively engaging in crafting activities, using their skills to assist friends and teach one another. Last week, they explored crochet, with participants enthusiastically teaching each other how to start a crochet project. Some even learned to crochet a flower!
This week, the group began painting by numbers, an activity that promotes mindfulness through art. Painting by numbers requires concentration on the present moment, making it an excellent exercise for mindfulness. It offers a creative outlet that can reduce stress and anxiety, foster emotional well-being and enhance cognitive function. On the Springvale Campus, the women concluded their final yoga session with physiotherapist Aditi from Mental Health and Wellbeing Local. Throughout the program, they learned to stretch their bodies and practise mindfulness by taking moments to breathe deeply. These sessions not only enhanced physical flexibility but also fostered mental clarity and emotional well-being. In addition, in partnership with Reclink Australia and South East Leisure, the women at our Hub now have free, unlimited access to the Noble Park Aquatic Centre's gym and pool facilities.
This initiative empowers them to pursue fitness goals alongside friends, fostering a supportive community environment. It's a significant step toward enhancing their physical and mental well-being. Stay tuned, Heights Campus—we're bringing this opportunity to you soon!
