What’s been happening in Visual Arts in Term 2?
What an action-packed term of Visual Arts it has been! We started off the term putting the finishing touches on our Whole School Interactive Mural called ‘The Harmony Cafe.’ It was finally ‘up and running’ just before Mother’s Day, which was very exciting! The students worked so hard to bring it to life and all areas of the school created a section of the mural. The SLC always have the big task of voting for the theme and painting the backdrop and special features required and I’m sure you’ll agree when you see it, that they did a sensational job!
Here’s a list outlining the responsibilities of each learning centre in creating our mural:
FLC: The BIG Chocolate Cake
JLC: Colourful Cupcakes
MLC: Delicious-looking Doughnuts and Cute Cookies
SLC: Super Cake Slices and Marvellous Macaroons.
As it is an ’interactive’ mural, you can ‘step into the picture and become a part of the artwork. Take a look at the photos to see how it’s done…even our lovely crossing ladies had some pictures taken!
So next time we have a special event or special visitors' day at school, the mural will be available for photos. Just come to the hall to join in the fun. (*Please also see Mrs. Hibbins or Mrs Orme if you would like to have a family photo taken at a different time).
For the last month, we have been exploring the use of paint in the Art room and experimenting with different painting tools and materials. The FLC & JLC students have made fantastic pictures with water-colour paints and enjoyed mixing paint to create new colours. They have learnt about Kandinsky and been inspired by his concentric circles. We even painted creatively to music!
The MLC and SLC have focused on the Colour Wheel, and its warm and cool colours, as well as creating shades and tints. We have seen artwork showing beautiful sunsets, glorious tonal skies and amazing landscapes. (We even learnt about horizon lines and how to use them effectively).
The students should be very proud of all their artworks. I am so impressed by the way everyone strives to do their very best and delighted to see our four school values consistently demonstrated in the Art room, particularly the value of ‘Collaboration’ with our whole school Mural.
Next we will all be working on some exciting textile art projects- I can’t wait to see all the fabulous creations produced 😊
Keep being AMAZING ARTISTS everyone!
