Reconciliation Week- On the 26th of May classroom teachers engaged all students in some learning about Reconciliation Week! 'Reconciliation' means coming together. In Australia it is the term most often used to refer to the bringing together of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples (Indigenous Australians) and non- Indigenous Australians.
Mrs Miranda on the HC and Ms Hammond on the SC, worked very hard to teach all students including a very special group of SLC students, the words and some moves to the song ‘Solid Rock.” The whole school performed and recorded the special dance. We can’t wait to see the performance video!
The MLC classes have also recently had an incursion called: ‘Mad About Science’. Here are some quotes from MLC students about the event:
“Mad About Science was fun!” - Gabie
“It was exciting and I got a big brain after it.” - Joravar
“Mad About Science was so amazing and I learnt a lot!” - Ellie
Sounds like the MLC had a great time. They tested many science things such as rockets and learnt other scientific knowledge - like about forces!
Student Voice: Anh Hoang has created book recommendations so students can find more information about books that others have read so far. Lots of people have read books that students have recommended and we hope to keep the flow going.
SRPS Cross Country In Week 9 the House and Vice Captains will be hosting a mini SRPS Cross Country! The F-2 students will run around a special track at school on each Campus and the 3-6 students will be walking to Warner Reserve and running around a designated track there. Mr Roberts and Mr Kullar have been working hard with the House and Vice Captains to make this an exciting and fun event for all students! Plus it is helping to keep our students fit and healthy! We look forward to seeing the photos in the next newsletter. We hope to see everyone at Running Club on both campuses in preparation for the SRPS Cross Country Event!
SLC- Camp
“WOW” “I'm so excited to be able to be with all my friends”
On the 21st of May the SLC from both Springvale and Heights Campus went to Phillip Island Adventure Resort! Teachers had the opportunity to choose from a range of exciting activities, including the giant swing, twin flying fox, archery, and many other fun experiences for students to enjoy. Day 1 was packed with the SRPS Talent Show with amazing students showing their talents such as singing, dancing, role plays and so much more. The SLC also got to go and see the penguins come out of the ocean and go to their homes. It was very cold, but there were so many cute fellows and then it was time to go back to camp. After we had dinner, we hadn't finished the talent show from the night before, and we were going to do part 2, but unfortunately students and teachers were too tired so we all got to watch a movie. After that, the whole SLC went to bed. Day 3 was our last day of being at the amazing camp. We had two more activities, people didn't want to leave, but still we had to come home and see our families. Everyone was sleeping on the bus, but in a matter of time we arrived back at school.
SWPBS - (School Wide Positive Behaviour Support) is a token system used across the whole school. We use our school values to earn these tokens.
When students have earnt 10 tokens they choose from the Acknowledgement Menu of prizes. So far we have already unlocked Respect and Resilience, which means next we have to unlock Excellence. This term we have started to learn about Collaboration which means hopefully we will see more blue tokens to match that value!
We encourage ALL students to continue to demonstrate positive behaviours at SRPS and keep earning those tokens.
