Finishing the Term Well

As we approach the final weeks of term, it is essential that while we may be feeling somewhat fatigued that we finish strong and with a sense of purpose.

For our students, this looks like;

  • Arriving to class on time (moving towards lockers and classrooms when the music begins). Students are expected to line up outside the classrooms and enter when invited into the classroom.
  • Following directives and instructions from all members of staff.
  • Using appropriate language inside and outside of the classroom.

Health and Wellbeing - Year 9 Amplify

During my walk around of the Amplify exhibitions this week, I was pleased to see the work of our students, in particular the groups that focused on Health and Wellbeing.

In particular I would like to acknowledge Zarah, Gabrielle, Neisha and Wilah on their presentation which you can view at the link below it's well worth a watch:

Project Rockit Empowers Students Through Connection and Values

Last week, our Year 7-9 students had the opportunity to participate in the engaging and thought-provoking Project Rockit program, a unique student-led initiative designed to foster empathy, inclusion and leadership.

From the very beginning, students were drawn into the sessions through interactive activities like “Would You Rather,” which not only sparked laughter but also opened doors to meaningful conversation. One student shared, “I enjoyed ‘Would You Rather’ - it made me think and listen to what others valued.”

A highlight of the experience was the focus on personal values. Students explored what truly matters to them and how these values shape interactions with others. “I really enjoyed the values task,” wrote one student. “It helped me realise what's important and how we all see things differently.”

One of the most powerful outcomes of the program was the way it encouraged collaborative discussion and respectful listening. Students noted that “hearing different points of view” and “listening to other opinions” helped them reflect and grow. Through these conversations, they discovered that “it’s good to reach out to others.”

Project Rockit also empowered students to use their voice. As one participant put it: “It felt like there was a voice for all.” The facilitators created a space where students felt heard, respected and motivated to work together. Another shared, “It was interactive, and we connected as a group. We even got to hear from people we wouldn’t usually talk to.”

Whether it was discussing issues around online respect, exploring personal strengths, or building empathy, students found the sessions “engaging,”“relatable,” and “inspiring.” As one student reflected, “It was good to learn about our values, and even better to learn about each other.”

The Project Rockit program has left a meaningful impact on our school community, helping to build stronger, kinder and more connected classrooms.

Preparing for school holidays

With school holidays just around the corner it’s crucial for parents and carers to ensure their teenagers are staying safe during their holiday break. Here are some practical tips to help keep your teens safe and entertained during their time off.

Open Communication:

Maintain open lines of communication with your teenagers. Encourage them to share their plans and whereabouts with you. This fosters trust and allows you to stay informed about their activities.

Establish Boundaries:

Set clear expectations and boundaries regarding curfews, screen time and social activities. Ensure they understand the importance of respecting these guidelines for their safety.

Supervised Activities:

Encourage participation in supervised activities such as sports, camps, or volunteer programs. These structured environments provide a safe space for teens to socialise and learn new skills.

Monitor Online Activity:

With more free time, teens are likely to spend additional hours online. Monitor their internet usage and educate them about the dangers of cyberbullying, online predators and the importance of protecting their privacy.

Promote Healthy Habits:

Encourage a healthy lifestyle by promoting regular exercise, nutritious eating and adequate sleep. Physical activity and good nutrition are essential for both physical and mental wellbeing.

Quality Time:

Spend quality time together as a family. Whether it’s a movie night, a day trip, or simply sharing a meal, these moments can strengthen your bond and provide opportunities to discuss any concerns they might have.

We wish all students and families a safe and relaxing holiday break. We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday 21 July.
