Faith and Community

This coming Sunday is the Feast Day of St Peter and St Paul. Though they were different in background, personality and even approach, both were united in faith, and their love for Christ.
Peter, the fisherman, was called from his nets and became the rock upon which Jesus built His Church. Paul, once a fierce persecutor of Christians, was transformed on the road to Damascus and became one of Christianity’s most passionate and fearless missionaries.
Their stories remind us that God calls each of us in our own unique way, just as we are.
As we come to the end of Semester two, this Feast Day is an opportunity for us to reflect, as staff and students of St Joseph's College, on our own calling to be people of courage, compassion and justice.
This week our Nicholls and Moore Houses gathered as house groups to reflect on the story of their House Patrons and celebrate with prayer and community. These times together as House groups allow students to deepen their connection across the college and celebrate House spirit. We thank St Mary’s Parish for hosting us.
One of the great privileges of my role at St Joseph’s is working with our students. This week our College Captains Olivia and Oliver shared this reflection as we quickly approach the end of Term 2.
"This year, we’ve been focusing on the theme of hospitality - and we’ve seen it everywhere. From welcoming new students, to supporting each other in class, to cheering each other on at events – it’s been amazing to watch how this community shows up for one another.
Hospitality is about making people feel they belong – and this term, you’ve done exactly that. Whether it’s been big events or small moments, your kindness and encouragement have made a difference.
A few highlights? Cross Country was such a standout. It wasn’t just about racing – it was about participation, spirit, and being part of something bigger than yourself. Seeing everyone give it a go whether you were walking or running, supporting their Houses, and keep going even when it got tough was seriously impressive.
Another massive moment was Do It For Dolly Day – and what a success it was! Thank you to everyone who got involved, wore a splash blue, and supported the cause. It was more than just a normal day – it was a powerful reminder of the importance of kindness, mental health awareness, and standing up for one another. You made it count.
And on the sporting front, volleyball and netball competitions were a hit! The energy, sportsmanship, and support from the sidelines really captured what this term’s all about. Congrats to everyone who played – and thank you to those who helped run it, and well done to Nicholls 5 for taking home the win. Safe to say Mrs Pethybridge was pretty happy that day.
But first – we’re in the final stretch of this term. It’s a good time to remind ourselves to stay focused, keep our study habits strong, and finish well. Don’t lose momentum – stay organised, keep asking questions, and look after each other along the way.
And of course, a quick shoutout to our Year 12s – we’re getting close. It’s a strange mix of excitement and pressure, but we’re nearly there. Let’s keep pushing through, supporting one another, and making the most of our last year together.
Let’s carry that energy through the rest of the term – keep showing hospitality, get around each other, and stay involved.
Have a great rest of the term and a safe holiday, everyone!"

Refugee Week at St Joseph’s College
This week, we’ve proudly celebrated Refugee Week - a time to honour the resilience, contributions and powerful stories of refugees who now call Australia home.
At St Joseph’s, we stand in solidarity with all oppressed people and strive to be a voice for justice and change.
👏A big well done to our staff who once again took part in the Ration Challenge, and congratulations to Willow H for winning our Refugee Week Poster Competition with her inspiring design!
Together, we continue to build a more compassionate and inclusive community.
