Work Experience Success – Thank You to Our Community
We are proud to share that 133 of our students - an impressive 85% of the cohort - recently took part in our Work Experience program. This valuable initiative was made possible thanks to the incredible support of approximately 100 local businesses across a wide range of sectors. Some students even made the extra effort to travel beyond our local community to take up placements, further enriching their experience and expanding their horizons.
Our students had a fantastic time gaining real-world experience, learning new skills, and exploring potential career paths.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the businesses and professionals who generously opened their doors and gave our students such a meaningful opportunity. Your support plays a vital role in helping shape their futures.
Student Reflections
Marley Colbert - Riverport Florist
During work experience week, I had the amazing opportunity to work at Riverport Florist. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I learned how to prepare and care for flowers, wrap bouquets and tie neat bows. I especially enjoyed getting creative with different coloured boxes, cellophane and ribbons to design appealing looks for arrangements. Setting up displays, unpacking fresh flower deliveries, and making two simple arrangements were highlights of my week. I even delivered two arrangements on foot, which was amazing to see the smiles from the recipients! It was a fun, hands-on experience and I’ve gained skills I’ll never forget.
Zoe Campbell - Kate Freshwater Lawyers
Last week, I completed work experience at Kate Freshwater Lawyers, where I gained exciting insight into the legal world. I performed a range of informative tasks such as filing paperwork, printing documents and assisting with other office tasks. I was very fortunate to speak with a Magistrate and police prosecution staff. While also observing the firm’s lawyers in action at court for two days, which gave me an interesting understanding of courtroom procedures and legal work. The all-female team at the office was truly inspiring and showed me what is possible with determination and confidence. I’m extremely grateful to have been part of this experience.
Ben Henson - Hartley Builders
For my week of work experience I spent the week with Hartley Building. It was a great hands-on experience that taught me heaps of new things to use in the real world. Throughout my five days with them I learnt what skills are needed to work at a construction site. It was good to get an idea of what it is like to work in construction and what a typical day looks like. The experience has given me a much clearer idea of what a career in construction could be like.
Eden Thomson - Echuca Regional Health
I had the opportunity to spend three days at a hospital during my work experience week, rotating through theatre, the emergency department and the cancer and wellness unit. This placement gave me a real-world understanding of what it’s like to work in nursing across different areas of care. I observed surgical procedures in theatre, saw the fast-paced environment of ED, and spent time in the cancer and wellness unit where patients were receiving chemotherapy and dialysis treatments. Each area showed me a different side of nursing and I was impressed by how compassionate and skilled the staff were. The experience strengthened my interest in healthcare, helped me improve my communication and teamwork skills, and gave me a clearer idea of the kind of career I might want to pursue.
Meaghan Gould - Radiant Media
I had the opportunity to collaborate with the team at Radiant Media during my week of work experience, where I gained insight into the real-world media industry through hands-on involvement. I observed how a professional team worked together to create engaging content and was able to assist with tasks such as colour grading, audio work and shot design on a real set. This experience helped me develop my social and time management skills and it gave me a clearer understanding of the types of careers available in the media field. I really appreciated how welcoming and supportive the team was, and I found the week inspiring and valuable for my career goals, as well as the opportunity to continue work with them in the school holidays.
