Celebrating Student & Staff Achievements

Bishop Joe Grech Scholarship
Congratulations to Poppy Ferguson who was recently announced as the winner of the Bishop Joe Gretch Scholarship.
The Bishop Joe Grech Scholarship is a prestigious recognition awarded to students who exemplify the spirit of service, hope and justice within our community. Named in honour of the late Bishop Joe Grech, a beloved spiritual leader known for his deep faith and dedication to spreading the message of hope, this scholarship celebrates those who actively use the gifts of the Holy Spirit to make a positive impact.
The scholarship enables senior students in the Sandhurst secondary colleges to participate in spirituality or leadership programs beyond their schools, promoting young people as significant members of the church
Poppy shared that she is “really excited” and “truly grateful for the opportunity,” and credits Mrs Pethbridge for her invaluable support throughout the application process.
Winning the scholarship is a meaningful milestone, offering her the chance to continue growing in her faith. “It’s an opportunity to continue my spiritual growth,” she said. “It encourages me to keep going and to keep seeking new opportunities to learn.”
The scholarship funds will support her attendance at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival, helping to deepen her connection to her faith community. There is also potential for the scholarship to contribute to school-based charitable initiatives or other students attending the event.
We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing all that she will achieve.

Media Student Makes the Big Screen
Recently, 2024 VCE Media graduate, Jasmin Ventura won an award for her masterpiece short film Bug Boy which she entered into a Tasmanian Film Competition.
Based on the themes of loss and sibling love, the film also sees ladybugs as a metaphor for life and lost family members.
Shown at last year’s St Joe’s On Show, Jasmin also won the prize for top VCE Media product from last year’s cohort.
With dreams of becoming a film director and currently studying Film at Deakin University in Burwood, Jasmin’s second place win comes with a financial prize and trip to Tasmania to receive her award.
Bug Boy was entered in the Under 19s Runners Up section of The Weindorfer Short Film Festival.
It is a testament to her efforts and interests in the Media that Jasmin has been able to achieve success in this field. The St Joseph’s College community looks forward to seeing your work on the big screen one day soon!
