REGION ATHLETICS RESULTS - Alfred heads to the State Athletics now in Three Events

Gallery Image

An unprecedented number of students will represented our school in Week 3 of this term at the  SOUTH METRO REGION ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS.  We are so proud of each of our athletes competing at this level - Dallas (Triple Jump), Maggie (Discus), Mabel (Shot Put), Isabella (Triple Jump) and Alfred (MC 100m, 200m and Shot Put). Thank you to the parents for their help in transporting, supervising and encouraging the students on the day, especially after the last-minute change of dates  to Friday due to the stormy weather last Wednesday.

Alfred (pictured right) has this year qualified in his Multi-Class Events in 100m, 200m and Shot Put with a Classification of T35 and F35 and earning himself 3 GOLD MEDALS which he proudly spoke of at assembly when interviewed by our Spirts Captains last Monday.  I hope he will bring these along to show the classes this week!  Such as outstanding achievement.  Well done, Alfred!

Alfred will now compete at the STATE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS at MSAC Lakeside Stadium THIS THURSDAY 6th November in 100m, 200m and Shot Put Multi-Class events.  What an ioutstanding athlete you are, Alfred.  You have never used your physical restrictions as an excuse and we are so very proud of you!  Who knows, we may be watching you at the Para-Olympics in years to come, whether it be in your swimming or your athletics!

We wish you all the very best for this Thursday, Alfred.

While most of students finished midway at the Region Aths in the field of 16 Region-Level Athletes, there were some really notable performances that I have noted from the Region Athletics Results.

Isabella (pictured left) jumped a Personal Best in 11 year Triple Jump and was only 70cm off making State Aths Qualification with a jump of 8.25m, jumping from the 7m take off board. These 11 year old results were similar to the 12/13 year results as well, so it was a very strong field this year in the 11 year girls for Region Athletics.  A wonderful achievement for Isabella this year in her Triple Jump. Congrats!

Fantastic results also from Maggie (16.05m in the Discus, finishing 9th from 16) and Mabel (7.21m in the 3kg Shot Put, finishing in 9th from 16) and Dallas who was unfortunate to miss his jumps being recorded, but who would have finished 7th place with his Division Jump of 7.29m. We are so incredibly proud of all of you for the effort and commitment of both you and your families.

Thank you to all students who have attended EVERY lesson.  We have seen a marked improvement in those who have shown full commitment to the program held a Yawa and run by our experienced volunteer swim teachers, Bill Green and Leonie Gagliardi.  Please thanks also to Jacqui Hayes and  Sarah Pancic for their assistance with the program.

Please ensure you are send along labelled goggles, as well as all swimming bathers, drink bottles, towels and a swim cap (if you have one) that your child will use during these lessons.

SWIMMING IS A COMPULSORY PART OF THE PE PROGRAM which is reported on and all students are expected to participate unless they are deemed unfit to swim.  As this will be reflected in their overall achievement in the Physical Education Report at the end of year, it has been great to see so many students giving it their all, many students showing that they needed to be moved up more than one level.

We have always been a very strong swimming school in terms of swimming competencies and this is largely due to the strong commmitment displayed by students (and supported by their parents), individualised swimming plans for students' abilities, extra-curricular Swim Squad opportunities and the maximum effort always demonstrated by our students.

If it is likely that your child will be absent for a lesson, it is important to notify me in advance via email, so that we maytry to test your child at an earlier lesson.

Warm Regards,

Jenny Todd
