Supporting Safe and Responsible Digital Learning
As a MACS school, St Joseph’s recognises that access to digital devices and online learning is an important part of every child’s education. Technology allows our students to connect, create, and explore in meaningful ways. However, it also comes with shared responsibilities.
Our students are guided by the school’s Digital Code of Conduct, which outlines clear expectations for safe and respectful online behaviour. We encourage families to reinforce these messages at home.
Together, we remind students to:
Be polite – treat others with kindness and respect when communicating online.
Be responsible – use digital tools for learning and make positive, thoughtful choices.
Be careful about sharing personal information – protect privacy and never share details like addresses or passwords.
Be critical when using the internet – think carefully about what they read or watch, and check if information is reliable.
Be protective of their own work and the work of others – respect copyright and creativity.
Be aware – understand that what is posted or shared online can be permanent.
Be safe and secure – use strong passwords and tell an adult if something online feels uncomfortable or wrong.
Inappropriate use of digital systems goes against our school’s code of conduct, which all students agree to uphold. By working together, families and teachers can help our students develop the skills and values they need to be safe, confident, and responsible digital citizens.
At home, we encourage families to:
- Keep devices in shared family areas rather than bedrooms.
- Set clear times for when and how devices can be used.
- Talk regularly with your child about what they’re doing online.
Together, we can support our students to make positive choices and stay safe in both their learning and their everyday digital lives.
Have a great week!
Kind regards
Megan Barber
