A group of Year 7 students recently completed an exciting ten week robotics program. Karl, a teacher from a Christian School in the Silicon Valley region of California, shared his expertise and knowledge via Zoom meetings with the students each week.
Students were guided to build a remote controlled robot using a combination of lego technic and micro: bit controllers. Various challenges required students to modify their robots to meet the design requirements. In the first challenge, students battled to push other robots out of a square in games of 'robot sumo'. Considering concepts from physics related to force, mass, acceleration and friction informed the engineering decisions students made.
In the second challenge, students competed in teams in a game of 'tower knock-down'. The speed and agility of robots became more important as teams needed to get past defenders to knock over cup towers on the opposite end of a small field. Students impressed with their ability to adapt their robot designs to meet differing challenges.
In the final task, groups paired up and combined two robots to design and build super robots capable of towing heavy weights. The winning team managed to drag over 7 kilograms!
We are very grateful for the time and energy Karl poured into our students, all the way from the other side of the world! Our students did a wonderful job and impressed with their clever ideas and design skills.

NCS delivered a commanding performance to defeat Illawarra Christian School (ICS) by 166 runs in a 40-over Christian Schools Sports Association (CSSA) knockout match at Reed Park on October 21.
Batting first, NCS posted an imposing 425 runs before their disciplined bowling and fielding restricted ICS to 259, securing a spot in the next round.
NCS’s batting was a spectacle, led by opener Mitchell J, who smashed a brilliant 100 packed with numerous sixes and fours. Caleb Mc contributed a stylish 81, peppering the boundary with aggressive intent. Jude Mc marked a milestone with his first 50, scoring a brisk 64, while Sam L chipped in with a crucial 49, helping NCS reach a mammoth 425 at the end of their 40 overs.
Chasing 426, ICS faced relentless pressure from NCS’s bowlers and fielders. Every player contributed in the field, with several claiming a couple of wickets each through sharp bowling and tidy fielding. ICS showed fight but crumbled to 259, unable to match NCS’s intensity.
With this emphatic victory, NCS advances confidently to the next round of the CSSA knockout. The team is thankful for Mr Nicholls coming along to support, whose presence was greatly appreciated.

One of this year's highlights for our Year 3 students was our annual trip to the Science Centre in Wollongong. Checkout a wonderful recount from one of our Year 3 students.
On 16 October, Year 3 went on an excursion to the Science Centre in Wollongong. When we got there, we had yummy snacks. Then we went into a bag area and put our bags in a locker. After that, we went into the lego room and had 15 minutes to make a lego tower that was strong enough to not fall down, even when it was put on a wobbly machine.
Upstairs they had a strength test, a plane simulator, a dino-controller and more! Then we went to the Planetarium and got to pretend we were travelling through the solar system.
Then we went downstairs and got to play with a sensor, a piano projector, a ball launcher and more.
Finally we went into the bubble room and a man did a trick where he set his arm on fire! Then we went had lunch and went back to school.
My favourite part was the plane simulator.

Recently, our Year 10 History students had the privilege of hearing first-hand experiences from Vietnam veteran Vin and his wife Nancy during a special incursion aligned with the NSW History syllabus focus on Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
Vin captivated students with his vivid recollections of life as an Australian soldier in Vietnam, describing both the challenges and camaraderie that defined his service. His personal stories brought depth and authenticity to the historical content students have been studying, transforming textbook material into a powerful human experience.Nancy also shared her perspective, offering valuable insights into the impact of the war on families and the home front. Her reflections helped students understand how the Vietnam War shaped Australian society far beyond the battlefield.
Adding to the experience, several students had the chance to dress up in authentic Vietnam War gear, immersing themselves in the era and gaining a hands-on appreciation of what Australian soldiers wore and endured.
The incursion was an engaging and meaningful way for students to connect with history, deepening their understanding of Australia’s role in the Vietnam conflict while honouring those who served. A heartfelt thank you to Vin and Nancy for generously sharing their time, stories, and memories with our students.

The Stage 2 garden has been loving the spring weather. Each week our gardening students have been delighted to discover more and more popping up in the garden. We have especially been enjoying all the different flowers. So many different colours, shapes, sizes and smells. What an amazing God we have and what a blessing it is to enjoy his creativity on display.

Our Year 10 PDHPE students recently took part in the RYDA Road Safety Education workshop - a fun and eye-opening day all about staying safe on the road.
Led by experienced facilitators and driving instructors, students explored real-life road scenarios, learned practical safety tips, and discovered how the choices they make can have a big impact behind the wheel and as passengers.
It was an engaging, thought-provoking day that left students better equipped to make smart, responsible decisions as future drivers and road users.

On Saturday 18 October, representatives from Nowra Christian School gathered with the RSL Nowra Sub-Branch to bid farewell to Mr Peter Williams, a cherished figure in the Shoalhaven community known for his lifetime of music, dedication and service.
Mr Williams has been a familiar presence at Nowra Christian School, renowned for his bugle calls of The Last Post and Reveille during our ANZAC Day services over the years.
