Lakeside Students RISE Up
As part of our endeavours to acknowledge and highlight positive behaviour, we present RISE Awards at Flag Assembly each Monday. RISE is an acronym for Resilience, Integrity, Service and Empathy. Each teacher identifies one student who has made a concerted effort to display the attribute of the week. This might be someone who exemplifies it readily, or it might be given to someone who has worked hard to really improve themselves in that area. These are our key character traits for the Primary School which help to reinforce our school behaviour expectations.
R - Resilience
I - Integrity
S - Service
E - Empathy
Parents are welcome to attend our Flag Assemblies, held on the Primary basketball court.

Year 2 Excursion to the Royal Cranbourne Botanic Gardens and Sleepover
Year 2 Adventures: From The Royal Cranbourne Botanic Gardens to Sleepover Fun!
On Thursday and Friday, the 23rd and 24th of October 2025, our Year 2 students embarked on two unforgettable experiences that celebrated nature, sensory exploration, teamwork and hands-on learning. The excursion formed a part of our learning through our PBL unit, Sound. These back-to-back events offered students a chance to connect with the environment, deepen their friendships and challenge themselves in creative and collaborative ways.
The adventure began with a full-day excursion to the breathtaking Royal Cranbourne Botanic Gardens. Students eagerly climbed on the bus and participated in a vibrant scavenger hunt, searching for signs of bandicoots, spotting colourful native flowers and identifying unique Australian flora. The gardens provided a peaceful and inspiring setting for morning tea and lunch, with students enjoying the fresh air and natural beauty around them.
In the afternoon, students took part in a captivating ‘Scents and Senses’ workshop. They tasted native lemon myrtle-infused tea, painted with ochre and explored traditional Indigenous Australian symbols through art. The tactile experience of feeling Possum fur, examining animal skeletons and hides and learning about native species sparked curiosity and wonder. These activities not only enriched their understanding of Australia’s natural and cultural heritage but also encouraged respectful engagement with First Nations' knowledge and traditions.
The excursion was a beautiful blend of environmental education, sensory exploration, and creative expression, leaving students inspired and full of stories to share.
The excitement continued on Thursday evening with our highly anticipated Year 2 sleepover, hosted right here at Lakeside College. With sleeping bags in hand and smiles on their faces, students arrived ready for a night of fun, friendship and adventure.
After setting up their beds and settling in, students enjoyed a delicious dinner together, followed by a series of survivor-style team-building activities. These challenges encouraged collaboration, resilience and creativity. Students worked in teams to design mascots using natural materials, brainstorm team names and build connections with peers they might not usually work with. The atmosphere was buzzing with laughter, encouragement and a strong sense of community.
The following morning began with a hearty breakfast to fuel the day ahead. Students then engaged in a chapel service and STEM problem-solving tasks that challenged their critical thinking and teamwork skills. From engineering challenges to logic puzzles, the activities were designed to stretch their minds and celebrate their strengths.
The sleepover concluded with a joyful awards ceremony, where students were recognised for their participation, creativity and teamwork. It was a heartwarming end to a memorable experience that strengthened friendships, built confidence and created lasting memories.
These two days were a testament to the energy, curiosity, and spirit of our Year 2 cohort.
We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, kindness and willingness to embrace new challenges. A huge thank you to all staff and families who supported these events. Your care and collaboration make these moments successful and possible.
