What an incredible week for our school!

On the back of a fantastic camp last week, for students in Years 3 and 4, on Sunday and Monday, five of our year 6 students travelled to and from Adelaide to compete with the state and territory winners from around Australia, in the annual Kids in Space competition.

This was an amazing experience for all concerned.  Throughout the presentation component, students spent time speaking with industry representatives as well as the judges.  Our students did a fantastic job communicating their concept design and sharing how they had worked each other and other teams in the process, the adaptations they had made along the way, and their personal learnings.  Throughout the process, they were calm, confident and engaging, and it was a very proud moment to see the impact of this on everyone they spoke with!  In addition, there were a number of guest speakers in attendenance, including the Governor of South Australia and astronaut, Katherine Bennell-Pegg.

Excitingly, our students took out second place and we now have a very special trophy on display in the office. Many thanks to Emily for her massive effort, driving us to and from the airport, and congratulations to our students and Hayley, on their presentation and represention of our school.

Yesterday, a group of 32 parents, students and staff embarked on a journey to Maryborough, for the Energy Breakthrough HPV tryathlon. On arrival, students presented their knowledge to a panel of judges and had their vehicles judged for presentation and structure and scrutineered for safety and conformance to regulations.  Once again, our students presented their knowledge confidently and can be very proud of their achievement. After a two hour practice event in the evening, they were up early again this morning, ready and excited for the 7 hour endurance event. Tomorrow, they will participate in the obstacle course and time trials.  A huge thank you to all our families and staff, for the role they have played in making this event happen; from supporting our kids in training and ensuring the vehicles were in top condition, to keeping everyone fed and hydrated, as well as assisting our students in the pits and providing site security.  We couldn't have done it without you!  A big thank you to Jarrod and Nicole, Tanya, Rob, Emily, Belinda, Mary, Sheepy, Karen, Krista and Ray, Michelle and Owen, Tim, Brett, Richard, Sarah, Hayley and Geremy.  Thanks again, also to our sponsors: AGL, the Bendigo Bank, Ortho Ski, the OP shop and KUSH engineering.  This may be our student's first time at this event, but I have no doubt that this won't be their last!
