Celebrating 100 Days of Foundation!

On the morning of Wednesday the 30th of July there was a great deal of excitement and electricity in the air. The day had finally arrived! It was the 100th day of school and all Foundation students and Miss Jones were ready to celebrate!

At 8:55 am the bell rang and out of the FKJ classroom came one little old lady. Where was Miss Jones? The Foundation children were so confused and did not know who this person was and where their teacher had gone. The stranger walked over to FKJ and said, 'Good morning!" Everyone soon realised that this lady was actually Miss Jones dressed up! There was lots of laughter in the air!

FKJ students had also been encouraged to dress up on the day to make themselves look like they were 100 years old. Everyone looked incredible! Suspenders, walking sticks, grey-silvery hair and pearls were seen throughout the Foundation cohort!

Miss Jones had a sign - 100th Day of School. Parents were encouraged to take a photo of their Foundation child in front of this sign to remember this wonderful day.

After a while, old Miss Jones took the children back into the classroom and changed their daily readers and then the real fun began! Miss Jones demonstrated how to make a 100 days of Foundation necklace. Each necklace was made out of 100 pieces of cereal.  Children used a tens frame to count out ten pieces of cereal. These pieces were then threaded onto a piece of wool. This was done ten times. The Foundation students worked on their counting skills by skip counting up to 100 by tens.

After recess FKJ worked on a new activity. Miss Jones showed the Foundation students how to make a 100 days of school crown. Each crown had ten sections and each section had 10 objects glued or drawn on it. Ten lots of ten is one hundred!

Students were encouraged to bring 100 small items to eat on the day and it was marvellous to see the different food that filled lunch boxes!

After lunch the children listened to a picture story book and a song about 100 Days of school. After this lovely story the Foundation children had a practice of the 100 Days of School song. This song would be sung at Assembly the following Friday in front of the whole school!

The following day, students from Foundation, Grade One and Two, were placed into ten small groups.  Each group had to work together to try and find 100 natural objects by searching high and low through the school playground. It was wonderful to witness groups working together to achieve this goal!

On the Friday, FKJ students performed the 100 Days of School countdown song at Assembly! The whole school community were extremely impressed with their performance!

We have had so much fun and learnt so much in just 100 days of school!  What a great time we had celebrating our 100th day at Boroondara Park Primary. As one student exclaimed at the end of the day, “ This has been the BEST day EVER!”

We hope the children will remember this day fondly for many years to come.

Term 3 - Echi Echidna Adventures

Week 2 Adventures

Milan began his Echi adventures by showing Echi around his home. He then drew a picture for Echi. Echi was super impressed! The next day Milan went to soccer practise and Echi loved seeing Echi kicking the ball and showing his soccer skills. Next, Milan and his Dad played chess and Echi supported Milan to win the game! Great job Echi and Milan! Echi was really excited to meet Milan's furry friend, Lucy! Lucy showed Echi how to fetch a ball. Echi couldn't believe how clever Lucy the dog was in collecting this ball.  Thank you so much Milan for sharing your lovely adventures with FKJ! We enjoyed hearing all about the fun activities that you and Echi experienced!

Week 2-

In the same week Ethan shared his holiday adventures with Echi. Ethan firstly shared Echi his toys and flew an aeroplane together! Next Ethan and Echi cooked a delicious pizza in Ethan's pizza oven. It was so delicious and very cheesy! Yummy! The next activity was to have a bath together! Ethan wore his swimming goggles in the bath and Echi did some laps up and down to strengthen his legs! Ethan's family ate a delicious cake and Echi was so lucky to get a piece. He gobbled it all up! For his last adventure, Echi helped Ethan count 100 letters for his 100 Days of Foundation 100 items collection. Echi was super helpful!

Thank you so much, Ethan, for sharing such a fun week with Echi and for telling your classmates all about your adventures. It was wonderful to hear everything you did with our furry friend!

Week 3

Harvey was the next person to have his adventure with Echi. Echi first adventure was meeting Harvey's sister. Harvey and his sister were learning the times tables with Echi. Next they had lots of fun together exploring the toys in the toy shop. Harvey then built a jet pack out of construction blocks for Echi to fly into the sky! Echi could not believe how high he flew! Harvey then took Echi to Goldie's birthday at Bounce and they had a wonderful time and so much fun! At the end of a fun week Harvey ate some delicious noodles with Echi. Thank you so much Harvey for sharing your week with Echi. He had a wonderful time with you at your home!

We look forward to hearing more Echi adventures in the future! You're such a lucky echidna Echi!
