Visual Arts

From the Visual Arts room.
For part of this term the students will be immersed in the picture story book 'South with the Seabirds' by Jess McGeachin. Students will look at elements of the illustrations and be inspired to make their own artwork based on the illustrations. Our librarian May has organised an author visit and Jess McGeachin is also going to visit the school on Monday 18th August.
Foundation
Students completed their torn paper and collage penguin. Students created a torn paper water background and used their scissor skills to cut out a penguin. Students read 'Frank's Red Hat'. They then chose a colour and designed a hat for their penguin.
For French week, students have been inspired by the Eiffel Tower and created their own using grey paper and metallic textas. Students explored different patterns to use to decorate their Eiffel Tower.
Grades 1 and 2
Students used a starting point of a beak. Students glued it onto a piece of paper. Students thought about the position of the penguin and drew the rest of the penguin.

Grades 3 and 4
Inspired by the art work 'Penguins' by Murray Griffin, students completed their collage penguins.
The penguins are on display in the corridors near the library. Each penguin has a different expression due to the position of beaks and eyes.
Grades 5 and 6
Students have been exploring the colours on the colour wheel. Students used their knowledge of complementary and harmonious colours to create their Pop Art penguins.
Thinking about repetition of an image and colour combinations, students experimented with coloured wax crayons on different colour background paper. Once the students were happy with the choice of colour, they drew the penguin on the colour background. The images were glued onto a large piece of paper to replicate the repetition and use of colour often used in Pop Art.
Just take a moment to ....
look at the colours on a colour wheel.
Use different colour combinations to give different effects to the drawing.
