Geometric shapes
Our students have been looking at geometric shapes; learning what makes up this type of shape, an object with a fixed shaped. These shapes are made up of lines, curves, angles, and surfaces. Some of the knowngeometric shapes are square, rectangle, circle, cylinder. A polygon is a geometric shape with 3 or more sides. Some of the common polygons are triangle, square, rhombus, trapezium.
Today our students made some of these shapes, along with cut pool noodles and dot bingo makers for stamping (also examples of geometric shapes) to create at bigger picture.
Drawing, Carving and Printing
With Emily our upper years have been investigating the print making process; drawing and carving, and then using these in a process called relief printing. The students are creating a portfolio of prints to be exhibited later in the year which will demonstrate their understanding of the printing process.
Creating first a pencil drawing, making sure the lines of the picture are clean, and pressing firmly so the image transfers easily on to the soft cut block. Students need to keep in mind the image will transfer in reverse.
Once this part is completed, using lino cutting tools, students carve out their image on the soft block. The printing process will have 2 or 3 different layers of colour for the desired effect. We will share these in the upcoming newsletters.
Here are some examples of our earlier prints that we carved into printing foam. The images were repeated to create these fabulous colourful artworks.
