Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Congratulations to everyone who participated in last weekend's Kangaroo Hoppet.  It was great to hear how much fun everyone had and I would like to extend a big thank you to Steph for her organisation and to all participating families, for their support.  As yet we have not been advised of the school results, but we were delighted to hear that Steph and Mary both made it to the 'podium', placing 2nd and 3rd in their age-group!

Families are advised that due to wet weather, the Jump Rope for Heart Jump Off has been postponed and we will try again next Tuesday afternoon at 2.30pm.    If you would like to come along, please sign in at the office and then join us on the netball court to celebrate and showcase the skills our students have been developing over the last month. In addition to encouraging and educating students about the importance of exercise in improving heart health, we have also been impressed with how much money students have raised to support the Heart Foundation. At last count, our school had raised $3601 dollars , which is a great result!

Yesterday, Year 6 families met to plan for our upcoming participation in the Human Powered Vehicle competition, at this year's Energy Breakthrough in Maryborough.  The school will be entering two teams and participating in events over three days.  Many thanks to Chris Greenhalgh and the Mount Beauty Secondary College for loaning us their vehicles.  Over the coming months, our students will be stepping up their training routine, working on their vehicle presentation and seeking sponsorship to help fund this unique experience.

Throughout this year, we have regularly had visitors from the Department of Education, visiting our school.  This week, the Executive Director of School Performance attended a meeting, in which he acknowledged the success our school is achieving in its results.  During this meeting, department staff commented on how calm and engaged our students are, and that this had been a consistent observation during their visits.  It was also noted that our attendance had improved!  This, however, is an area that we still need to work on, so we appreciate everyone's effort in maximising student attendance by minimising absences wherever possible.

We are currently seeking CASUAL STAFF to work in the OSHC Before, After School and Vacation Care programs.  Successful applicants will hold a CERT III or Diploma in School Age Education and Care or Early Childhood Education and Care, have a current Working with Children Check, First Aid and Driving License.  Please contact the school for further information or apply in writing to mount.beauty.ps@education.vic.gov.au
