John XXIII Rowing Club

Dear Rowing Families

We thought we would be reviewing the successful season and celebrating our final regatta at the All Schools State Championship in this edition of the newsletter, but the weather had other ideas.

To ensure student, coach and boat safety, the regatta was cancelled on Saturday and will be held instead on Saturday, 23 August at Champion Lakes. We understand some athletes will not be able to compete on that day due to other commitments, and we can understand their disappointment at not being able to conclude their season on a high note.

We hope that they can still attend the House Regatta, now scheduled for Saturday, 6 September and race for the House Cup.

Our Year 7 Learn to Row program commenced on Monday, with three sessions being held each week, with 48 students participating.

Tickets for the Presentation Dinner are now available. This event will take place on Saturday, 6 September at the College. Details are below.

All Schools State Championships

Due to the postponement of our State Championships, our new regatta date is 23 August. Race times will remain very similar to what was posted, but may change slightly.

Unfortunately, some rowers and coxswains are unable to attend on the rescheduled date. Due to this, there will be some changes to crews. The revised crews will be posted soon.

Presentation Dinner – Saturday, 6 September, 6:30pm

The Presentation Dinner will be held on Saturday, 6 September, commencing at 6:30pm in the Thomas More Exhibition Centre at John XXIII College. Tickets can be purchased here

This event provides us with a wonderful opportunity to recognise our rowers, their season and our fabulous committee. This event is for Years 9 to 12 rowers and their parents.

Year 7 Learn to Row

The Year 7 Learn to Row program commenced this week, with 48 Year 7s having their first experience of rowing. We hope they enjoy themselves over the five weeks.

A bus leaves school at 3:30pm and leaves the boatshed to return to school at 5:30pm for a 6:00pm pick up at school. Parents, please ensure you are at school at 6:00pm. If students are being picked up from Canning Bridge, please notify Claire.

Please contact me if you have any queries.

Uniforms

The new zootsuit is now in stock at the Uniform Shop. There is also a training top which can be worn under the zootsuit. The only compulsory item is the zootsuit for racing at regattas. There is stock of the old Zootsuit which can be worn. Year 8 students can wear their PE uniform to the race and are not required to purchase a zootsuit.

Stack Team App

Please download the Stack Team App if you have not already done so. This app is one of our main avenues for communication with rowers and their parents. This is the central place for training schedules, training updates, and rowers can contact their coach in case of illness or injury and missed trainings. It is important that all rowers and parents have access.

To get this app please go to the App Store or Google Play and download Stack Team App onto your mobile device, then follow these simple steps:

  1. Sign-up to Stack Team App. You’ll be sent an email to confirm your registration.
  2. Log-in and search for JTCRC, then request to become a member.
