1st Men
It has been an up and down season for the men but the last few games have seen them click into gear. The last three games have been victories with all members of the squad contributing. The defence and goalkeeping have been immense with Matteo Boscato the form keeper of the competition. The last three games have led to only one goal conceded. The midfield remains energetic with Captain Hamish Hall and the evergreen Mr Willis buzzing about creating excellent triangles. Up front Harry Chapman and Nicholas Wood have been terrorising opposition defences. The form is hot for the Semi-Finals.
1st Women
The womens' team has been building throughout the season and if not for influenza, exams and the musical might be a bit further up the ladder. The impressive thing about this squad is that they never give up. In the second-round matches against all opponents the scoreline has been much closer that it was previously. The two victories this season were magnificent, and the team is inspirational to the younger female players in the school.
U15/16
The team has been performing well this season. They have also been hit quite heavily by the influenza bug in the last couple of games but have won four games this season and are looking in good form towards the semi-finals. The team is quite young for the division so their courage and enthusiasm has been great to see.
U14
The U14 team has had a great season. They are placed fourth on the table at the moment with seven wins and a positive goal difference of 26. The team has gelled well this season with the defence being solid and the frontline scoring many goals. The most positive aspect is the trust that each player has in those around them.
U13
Its always a tough start to the season for the Year 7 students with many of them never having played together. Under the guidance of Coach Kelly they have jumped to fourth on the table with six wins this season. The team always plays hard and dogged determination has seen them victorious. There is a great balance of boys and girls in the team and cohesion has been their strong point.
The KWS 1sts have had a challenging but inspiring season as they returned to Division 1 in 2024. On Saturday, they faced Life Studio — who had beaten them 56–35 earlier in the year — and produced one of the most exciting matches of the season. With a large and vocal crowd cheering them on, the girls went goal-for-goal throughout, with neither side pulling ahead by more than four goals. In the final minutes, Kinross Wolaroi snatched an intercept to level the score and briefly take the lead, sending the supporters wild. In a heart-stopping finish, Life Studio capitalised on a late turnover to edge ahead, winning 49–48. Despite the narrow loss, the improvement in the 1sts has been clear for all to see, and the team should be proud of their fight and spirit.
Across the club, our teams are strongly positioned with just two rounds to go. The 10s and 13A teams are both holding second place, while the 15.1s also sit in second and the 15.2s in fifth. The 13B and 13C sides are competing well in third and fifth, and the 15A and 15B are placed fourth and fifth. The 15.3s and 15.4s currently hold eighth, while the 15C team is seventh and the 15Ds are leading their competition in first place. In the senior grades, the 17A and 17B are placed fifth and seventh, while the 17F, 17C and 17L sides are all enjoying excellent seasons, sitting first, second and third respectively. The 17S team is also performing strongly in third place. Among the Opens, the 1sts are in sixth, the 2nds and 3rds are both placed third, and the 4ths and 5ths are sitting fourth and sixth.
In addition to the on-court action, we successfully ran the Netball BBQ at the courts over the weekend. A huge thank you goes to everyone who volunteered their time, helped on the day, or brought in baked goods to sell. Your contributions created a wonderful community atmosphere and helped raise valuable funds for the program. We would also like to acknowledge Country Prime Meats for their generous donation of bacon for the BBQ.
With strong representation across the divisions and multiple teams pushing for finals positions, there is much to look forward to as the season draws to a close. We encourage families and supporters to come along to the final rounds and cheer on our players as they fight for their place in the finals.
We are delighted to congratulate Tess Shanahan, who has qualified straight through to the State Championships for Interschools Snowsports. This is an outstanding achievement and reflects her dedication and skill on the slopes. Tess will be representing Kinross Wolaroi in Alpine and Ski Cross in Division 1 this Friday, competing against some of the best young skiers in the state. We wish her every success for the event and look forward to sharing her results and celebrating her achievements in the weeks to come.
Our Boys Rugby program hit the road to Sydney last weekend and returned with plenty to celebrate after a successful round against St Aloysius’ College. On Saturday 9 August, five of the eight teams who took the field came away with wins, with the 15A, 16A, 16B, 2XV and 1XV all marching home victorious. It was another proud day for the program and a reminder of how far our teams have come this season - playing with resilience, belief and the kind of spirit you’d expect from boys who wear the Kinross Wolaroi Jersey.
That momentum carried directly into the Semi Finals on Saturday 16 August, where the Rugby Community was treated to performances that will long be remembered. The 14Bs, unbeaten across Term 3, kept their run going with a confident display, stamping themselves as a team for the future. The 2XV brought home another stirring win against Stannies, this time in Bathurst, a result that spoke of both their continued quality and grit.
It was the 3XV who embodied the spirit of “Waltzing Matilda” most of all - a team of mates bound by belief, bouncing back from last week’s disappointment and pushing forward with resilience. In their nail-biting semi-final, the 3XV emerged triumphant, earning their place in this weekend’s Grand Final at St Gregory’s College. They are now the last KWS team standing, a fitting finale to a season marked by growth and pride across the program.
To our entire Rugby Community - thank you. From parents and families to coaches, staff, alumni and volunteers, the program simply could not exist without your tireless support. Every early morning drive, every weekend spent travelling, every voice on the sideline, every BBQ served, every field set up and every quiet word of encouragement has made this season such a success. It is your generosity, commitment and love for the game that give our boys the chance to experience moments like these, moments they will take with them for life.
And now, as the curtain closes on 2025, we waltz into one last battle. The 3XV will carry with them the pride of every KWS Rugby Player this year. With resilience as their swag and school spirit as their compass, they march into the Grand Final at St Greg’s ready to write a final, memorable chapter.
On Thursday 14 August, our representative U16 Boys Rugby 7s team stormed their way to victory at the Central West Rugby 7s Competition in Dubbo.
The boys showed everything we love about KWS Rugby - grit, skill, pace and a huge amount of teamwork. From the opening whistle they played with confidence, backing themselves in attack and working hard for one another in defence. Their effort across the day was rewarded as they lifted the trophy and claimed the Central West title.
The reward for this outstanding result? A ticket to the NSW Schools Rugby 7s State Championships on the Central Coast later this term, a brilliant opportunity to test themselves against the very best in the state.
Coach Sam Bettle was full of praise for his team:
“The boys really dug deep when it mattered. They naturally played for each other, trusted the systems we’ve been working on and showed great character throughout the day. Winning the Central West is a fantastic achievement, but what excites me most is the opportunity ahead at the State Championships.”
A massive congratulations goes to the squad: Sam Hill, Hamish Leader, Ash Robinson, Chuck Fletcher, Xavier Zinga, Matt Lowther, Archie Balcomb, Henry Luelf, Will Kirby, Hugh Nash, Declan Dixon and Heathcliffe Bell. We also extend our thanks to Mrs Connors for her assistance on the day, and to Coach Sam Bettle for his leadership, guidance and commitment in preparing the boys for this campaign.
The entire school community is behind these young men as they prepare for the State Championships. We wish them every success on the Central Coast.
Kinross Wolaroi School is delighted to congratulate three of our rugby players on their selection into the prestigious NSW Gen Blue teams and squads.
These achievements are a testament to the hard work and dedication of Hamish, Declan and Maddy, as well as the support of their teammates, coaches and families. Representing NSW is a significant milestone, and we are incredibly proud of them.
We look forward to following their journeys in the Gen Blue program and wish them every success as they continue to develop their rugby careers.
The Girls' rugby program has had two successful weekends recently. The 16s girls faced the 3rd on the ladder Trinity Catholic College from Goulburn at home on a warm winters day. The girls came out confident, building throughout the game but not without multiple setbacks throughout the game, the girls in blue walked away with the win 36-17.
The 18s ventured off to Canberra again to face the Tuggeranong Vikings in a mirror fixture from the week prior. The girls learnt from their first match up with the Vikings this term to have a dominant victory 51-10. Last weekend the 18s had another road trip to the capital to play Canberra Grammar, running a small bench of two subs, the girls knew the game would be tough. Coming in to the match confident and conditioned the mighty 18s were dominant for all 60 minutes, coming away with a 48-0 win.
All three teams will hit the road again this week to face up against Canberra Grammar, hoping to come away with wins across the board to build confidence in the final weeks of the season.
With all three teams in finals contention we look forward to hosting our final home game of the season alongside Boarders v. Day Students on the 30 August! Fixture times to be confirmed in the coming weeks!
