Careers Corner
Mrs Rachel Galvin
To date, there have been many students engaging in work experience across a range of industries including construction, plumbing, agriculture, hospitality, metal fabrication, tiling and early childhood. Work experience is a fantastic opportunity for students in years 9 and 10 to use on the job experiences to support their learning and pathways planning. Work experience is a student-led program open to all stage 5 students, please speak with Mrs Galvin if you would like to pursue a placement.
VET work placement is a mandatory component of VET completion, VET subjects are offered in stage 6 and include Hospitality, Construction, Primary Industries and Fitness. Students in these year 11 subjects will be completing their first placement blocks in mid term 3. Please ensure that you are working with your course teacher to ensure your paperwork is up to date.
Year 10 Careers lessons are still focusing on completion of the 3 Minimum Standard tests. Most students have now completed the reading and numeracy tests with the writing test scheduled for later in the term. Students will require a charged device at their Careers lessons in order to complete these.
In week 4, year 11 and 12 students travelled to Tamworth with Mrs Galvin, Mr Flemming, Mrs Czinner and Miss Place for the Rotary Careers Expo. It was a fantastic and informative day where students were able to engage with over 120 exhibitors from a range of industries and institutions.

Just a reminder to all year 12 students that the University Admissions Centre is currently open with early bird pricing. Students wishing to make an ATAR-based application to university should be registering for the UAC portal. Please reach out to me if you require support with this process. Early entry applications are also open for a growing list of universities across the state. Please check in with the specific university you are interested in for their application timeline. There is also an early entry guide available on the year 12 Google Classroom.
In week 6, Mr Healy took the Tiny Home build crew to visit the UniPlan site as part of the planning phase for this project. Construction for this project is expected to take place over the coming weeks, stay tuned for more updates!
