Year 7 Camp

Last week, our Year 7 students from O'Connor Catholic College travelled to the Great Aussie Bush Camp for an action-packed three-day camp filled with adventure, challenge and plenty of fun. Before the camp had even officially begun, students were required to overcome their first challenge when one of the buses broke down just outside of Gloucester. Despite the unexpected delay, students remained patient, positive and in good spirits, setting the tone for the resilience they would continue to display throughout the camp experience.
Although the weather certainly tested us, with rain falling for the first two days, students showed incredible resilience and positivity throughout the entire experience. Thankfully, the sun finally made an appearance on the final morning as we prepared to head home, providing a perfect finish to a memorable camp.
Over the three days, students participated in a wide range of exciting outdoor activities designed to encourage teamwork, courage and confidence. The Survivor mud run proved to be a highlight for many students, with everyone embracing the mud, rain and obstacles with enthusiasm and plenty of laughter. Canoeing was another popular activity as students navigated the water while working together to stay afloat and on course. Students also tested their focus and determination during archery sessions, while the dual zip line challenged many to step outside their comfort zones and conquer their fears.
The camp also provided opportunities to explore the beautiful natural environment surrounding Tea Gardens. Students visited the impressive sand dunes and took part in a rainforest walk, learning more about the local landscape while enjoying time outdoors with their peers.
Evenings at camp were just as entertaining as the daytime activities. Students participated in a variety of games and challenges that brought out some very hidden talents within the group. One of the standout moments was the hilarious garbage bag fashion show, where creativity, teamwork and confidence were all on full display. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, building new friendships and strengthening existing connections throughout the camp.
Despite the wet conditions and unexpected travel delays, the Year 7 cohort approached every activity with positivity, resilience and enthusiasm. Staff were incredibly proud of the way students represented O'Connor Catholic College by supporting one another and embracing every opportunity camp had to offer. The camp was a fantastic experience for all involved and provided memories that will no doubt be talked about for years to come.
