What's On In Foundation

PMP:
This term, students have been enjoying our PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) sessions twice a week in the gym. PMP provides students with opportunities to develop a wide range of important gross motor skills through engaging movement activities and obstacle courses. Throughout the sessions, students practise skills such as balancing, jumping, climbing, throwing, catching, and coordination, while also learning to follow instructions, take turns, and encourage their peers. These experiences play an important role in supporting students’ physical development, confidence, resilience, and independence. It has been wonderful to see students challenge themselves, celebrate their achievements, and approach each activity with such excitement and determination. Thank you to all our wonderful helpers who have helped us so far.
Maths:
In Maths this week, students explored positional language through the much-loved story Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins. As we followed Rosie on her adventure around the farm, students identified and discussed positional words such as “over,” “under,” “through,” and “around.” To extend their understanding, students created their own Story Maps to retell Rosie’s journey and label the different locations she visited using positional language such as "through the fence”. This engaging activity provided a wonderful opportunity to connect our Maths learning with Literacy, while also encouraging students to build their oral language, comprehension, and sequencing skills.
Celebrating David Attenborough
On the 18th of May, we joined in the celebrations for the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. Students had a fantastic time dressing up as their favourite animals or wearing animal-inspired outfits, with many creative and colourful costumes on display! As part of the celebrations, we learnt about Sir David Attenborough’s life journey and the incredible impact he has had on educating people about wildlife, nature, and caring for our planet. Students were highly engaged in discussions about animals, and each student completed an interesting writing piece about their favourite animal, accompanied by detailed and imaginative illustrations. It was wonderful to see students’ creativity, enthusiasm, and growing knowledge shine through in their work.
