What's On In Chinese

This term in Chinese, students have been learning about colours and numbers in Chinese, while also exploring famous Chinese fables such as ‘The Three Monks’ (三个和尚). Through this story, students learned that fables are designed to teach important morals and life lessons to children. They discussed themes such as teamwork, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
Students have also been learning how to read and write the numbers one to ten in Chinese. A strong focus has been placed on using the correct stroke order when writing Chinese characters, helping students develop accuracy, neatness, and confidence in their handwriting skills. Through guided practice and repetition, students are becoming more familiar with the structure and formation of Chinese characters, while also building their understanding of how written Chinese differs from English.
Senior students have been listening to and responding to traditional Chinese stories such as The Three Monks (三个和尚) and Ma Liang and the Magic Brush (神笔马良). Through these well-known tales, students explored important moral lessons and gained a deeper understanding of Chinese literature and storytelling traditions within a cultural context. Students discussed themes such as teamwork, generosity, honesty, and the responsible use of talents and abilities. They demonstrated their understanding by answering comprehension questions, identifying key events and characters, and summarising the stories in their own words.
