VCE VM VALEDICTORY – A NIGHT OF CELEBRATION!

On November 21st, the Peninsula Centre in Mount Martha was excited as parents, students, and teachers came together to celebrate the Valedictory of the Class of  2024. The evening was a testament to the dedication, resilience, and achievements of the VCE VM cohort. The students, dressed to impress in elegant dresses and sharp suits, exuded pride and joy as they reflected on their incredible journey through applied learning.

The event began with heartfelt speeches highlighting the students' growth and success, their families' unwavering support, and their teachers' dedication. Certificates and awards were presented to acknowledge outstanding academic accomplishments, personal growth, and contributions to the school community. Every moment resonated with the spirit of triumph and togetherness, a reminder of the collective effort that shaped their year.

The formalities gave way to the dance floor. Students, teachers, and parents danced the night away to '80s and '90s classics. It was a joyous culmination of hard work, perseverance, and camaraderie—a night to remember for all who attended.

Valedictory marked not just the end of the students; secondary education but the beginning of their futures. It celebrated their determination, the relationships they built, and the memories they created. To the VCE VM Class of 2024: congratulations on your incredible achievements.

CELEBRATION DAY

After a year of hard work and dedication, we celebrated in style with an exciting day in the city! Kicking off the day, we explored the incredible Ian Potter Centre, soaking in world-class Australian art and culture. Next, we strolled through the vibrant Hosier Lane, surrounded by the creative energy of its iconic street art. Teachers and students enjoyed a delicious lunch together before diving into the magic of Christmas shopping, where students found gifts and souvenirs or immersed themselves in city vibes. It was a well-deserved day that was packed with fun, creativity, and celebration!

HEADSTART

The VCE VM program started strong on Thursday, November 28th, setting the tone for a productive and engaging year ahead. Remarkably, the team only had to make 12 phone calls across Years 11 and 12 regarding attendance, receive just one parent complaint about our non-negotiables, and address a handful of students dissatisfied with their class placements. Uniform compliance was excellent, with many freshly ironed shirts (fresh out of plastic) signaling a commitment to expectations.

The VCE VM program launched with an 80-minute assembly that covered our non-negotiables, expectations, and guest presentations. A standout moment was Laura Spence’s inspiring address, and from feedback, resonated with the current and new students. Another highlight was the presentation of a cheque for just under $10,000 to Fusion, supporting youth homelessness on the peninsula—an achievement that reflects the program’s strong community values.

We were also thrilled to welcome new team members for 2025: Maria T, Lewis White, and Scott Jones. Their diverse strengths, shared passion for applied learning, and commitment to student success promise to make the team even more dynamic. Overall, the program’s smooth start, marked by positive engagement and alignment with our goals, suggests a great year ahead.

Goodbye Ms G

As the end of the year draws near, it is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Miss G. Her unwavering support, passion, and dedication will leave a permanent mark on every student she has guided. Miss G's commitment to ensuring success for each learner went far beyond her role; she gave her time selflessly, often sacrificing her own to give her students every opportunity to thrive. Her belief in the student’s potential was unshakable, and her encouragement inspired many to achieve impossible thoughts. Saying goodbye to such an extraordinary teacher and mentor is bittersweet. Still, her legacy of kindness, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege to learn from her. Thank you, Miss G, for everything; you will be deeply missed but forever cherished.

LOOKING AHEAD 2025

In 2025, all students must adhere to the whole school uniform policy. Students unable to immediately correct uniform issues or who refuse to access the Swap Shop will not be permitted to enter class. To support families and ensure students can meet this expectation, we kindly request donations of uniforms from former VCE VM students and parents. These contributions will help create a stock of resources for those in need and reinforce a sense of community within our program.

Attendance is another critical focus for the VCE VM program. With classes scheduled for only three days per week, maintaining an 80% attendance rate is essential. This means students can only be absent for a maximum of 1.5 days per term. Parents and students are encouraged to work together to meet this goal, as consistent attendance is a cornerstone of success in the VCE VM pathway.

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) will also be a mandatory program component in 2025. All students are required to secure a work placement every Friday, aligning with the program’s emphasis on applied learning and real-world skills. No student should remain at home on Fridays without an SWL placement. Students must submit their SWL forms to Ciara Vella or email them to Ciara.Vella@education.vic.gov.au.

These requirements aim to foster a professional, committed, and supportive environment for all VCE VM students. With clear expectations, community support, and student engagement,

we are confident that 2025 will be a year of growth and success. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to the VCE VM program.
