Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,  

Over these past few weeks the school has been a hive of excitement, celebration, joy and a whole lot of Christmas Cheer!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank this year’s student leadership group who have done an outstanding job leading our school.  

Graduation 

Congratulations must go to our year 6 students who had their formal graduation ceremony on Monday. The students presented themselves beautifully and it was a wonderful celebration of their seven years of primary school. Many thanks to the staff who supported the children and did the organisation behind the scenes to make the evening so special.  

To our departing families who have their youngest child finishing primary school, thank you. I am so grateful for the strong partnerships we have between home and school here at Derinya. We appreciate all that you have done over your time as Derinya families and we wish you well.  

This will be my final communication for 2024. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please stay safe and well. I look forward to seeing you all in 2025.  

Traffic Project  

The trial of the morning traffic safety initiative held from Tuesday December 10, to Friday, December 13, 2024, at the front of Derinya Primary School on Overport Road has been successfully completed. The initiative aimed to promote safe driving practices, including the reduction of illegal U-turns, and to foster a positive, engaging atmosphere during the morning drop-off period. Key observations included zero U turns, a positive community response and a significant improvement to safety.  

Our heartfelt thanks must go to Nicole Walshe, Chrissy Robertson and other volunteers for an inspirational and positive approach to what is a challenging issue at our school. Further information about our next steps are to come in the new year.  

Beginning of 2025 

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school at the commencement of the 2025 school year. Monday 27th January will be a public holiday across the state. Tuesday 28th January will be the teacher’s first day followed by student’s return on Wednesday 29th January. Foundation students will not attend on Wednesdays until March.
