Deputy Principal

Staff Development & Organisation - Kerry Jell

As we embark on the 2025 school year, our year of Joy, I extend a warm welcome to all families—both those returning and those joining the Mount Alvernia College community for the first time. A new year brings with it a sense of renewal, possibility, and excitement. It is also an opportunity to reaffirm the values that define us as a college: a commitment to excellence, a culture of care, and a shared dedication to nurturing the educational wellbeing of young women who are empowered to thrive in all aspects of their lives.

At the heart of this mission are our teachers and support staff, whose work extends far beyond the classroom. The dedication, expertise, and passion they bring to their roles are the foundation of the success of our students and the continued growth of our college.

The Commitment of Our Staff

Our highly qualified teachers and support staff are experts in their fields and challenge students to live well and learn well, to be agents of change for themselves and for others, and to be people of hope, courage, industry, persistence and curiosity. The importance of teachers to students and society cannot be overstated; teaching is the profession on which all other professions depend. Our society needs great teachers and school staff to nurture great learners—people who are empowered to be curious, to imagine, to tackle the enormous problems we face today and those we can’t yet foresee. The work can be hard, but the reward is great. Our educators at Mount Alvernia College devote countless hours to lesson planning, professional development, and individualised student support to ensure each learner is engaged, challenged, and encouraged. Their commitment to each student’s journey is evident in every interaction, whether through engaging classroom experiences, extracurricular programs, or one-on-one support.

The Power of Respect, Communication, and Partnership

As parents and caregivers, you play a vital role in this journey. The relationship between home and school is one of partnership and mutual trust. Together, we share the responsibility of guiding our students toward success, and the key to this lies in three essential elements: respect, communication, and collaboration. Respect is the foundation of all meaningful relationships. Our staff are professionals who are deeply invested in the educational wellbeing of every student. Showing appreciation for their professionalism, expertise and efforts fosters a positive and supportive school culture—one where teachers feel empowered to give their best, and students, in turn, benefit from a thriving learning environment.  Open and constructive communication between parents and staff is equally important. Whether through parent-teacher meetings, parent information sessions, emails or phone conversations, ongoing dialogue helps us to better understand each student’s needs and aspirations. We encourage parents to engage with us proactively, seeking clarification when needed and working with us to address challenges as they arise. Finally, a true partnership between school and home creates the best outcomes for students. When we work together—sharing expectations, reinforcing positive behaviours, and supporting learning beyond the classroom—we give our young women the strongest possible foundation for success.

Looking Ahead

As we step into 2025, I encourage all families to embrace this year with a spirit of optimism and collaboration. Our staff are committed to making this year one of growth, achievement and joy for every student at Mount Alvernia College. Together, through respect, communication and partnership, we will continue to create a vibrant, supportive and enriching learning community where all students can flourish. We look forward to working with you throughout the year.
