SAKG Christmas Raffle
Just a reminder to get onboard with our SAKG Christmas raffle. Some amazing prizes to be won and all the money raised will go towards purchasing a wicking bed of which the senior students will be responsible for managing. Any support will be greatly appreciated and if you need more tickets the office does have spare sheets. And we would like to say a ‘big thank-you to our major sponsors’:
KITCHEN GARDEN NEWS
We are wrapping things up in the kitchen now, but that doesn't mean that nothing is happening. On the contrary, in fact our Preps have had a taste of working in the kitchen last week and this week, making some Christmas cookies as well as fruit kebabs. It is a lovely and light-hearted way to introduce our youngest students to a space into which they are going to have more and more activities in the coming years. The warm weather caused a few challenges with the cookies as the dough began to soften once it was handled and it was tricky to get the cookies onto the baking tray and keep their shapes. A few of the snowmen and Christmas trees had bits fall off, but we squished them back on and the cookies were delicious. The kebabs facilitate the development of some fine motor skills, chopping and assembling and to finish off we have been eating them outside!
In the absence of Jodie last week it was great to see many classes still head out to the garden. Jobs such as watering, weeding paths, cutting back mint, cleaning guinea pig cages and chicken nesting boxes, along with finishing off Christmas wreaths were all completed and greatly appreciated.
It is pleasing to see seven nominations for Garden Leaders in 2025. These positions are important, as Garden Leaders are role models for how to be good citizens in the garden. During lunchtime they show younger children how to handle chooks and guinea pigs. They also 'step up' to help with garden projects. This year the Garden Leaders have been Paul W Q and Eli M who have made a great contribution to the garden. Paul is a polite and intelligent student who has helped look after the chooks during the holidays. Eli is a caring and hardworking student who has been dedicated helping run the guinea pig petting zoo at lunchtimes. Thanks boys! We also look forward to working with the Garden Leaders in 2025!
Thank you to all those families who have volunteered to care for the animals over the summer break. We have had quite a bit of interest which highlights how much joy the animals bring and what a special part of the program they are. If you have missed out this time, please note that there will always be opportunities in the future.
And lastly the SAKG team would like to wish everyone a happy holiday, stay safe and we look forward to working with all of the students, staff and volunteers in the kitchen and garden next year.
