Grade 5/6

This term, the grade 5/6 students have settled into their learning environment perfectly. They have been creating clear routines and structures and applying for classroom positions such as timetable monitor, office assistant, tech ninja and many more.
We have begun our new inquiry topic: Australia as a Nation. Our focus will be on exploring Australia's history and the important events such as becoming a nation, democracy and citizenship and stories of migration. The students have been learning about federation this week and they are working hard to understand how this event shaped the country we live in today.
In addition to our inquiry work, we have been running daily Oral Reading Fluency groups to improve reading skills and build confidence in comprehension. These sessions are a fun and interactive way to practise fluency and pronunciation.
In Mathematics, we are currently learning about fractions, working through concepts such as equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and how fractions are used in real-life situations. It’s been a busy and engaging start to the term, and we look forward to continuing this journey of learning together!
