Prep/1 Classroom News


Wow! What a fun and busy time at the start of the year we've had. We welcomed our new Prep students for their first day on Friday 30th January. The Year 1 students were very keen to assist and support their transition. We have been learning and revising our school and classroom routines and procedures and getting to know each other. Students have unpacked their bags, placed their drink bottles on their 'Ready To Learn' scales and started the year in a positive manner. First up we sing our Good Morning song, take the roll and then get into our learning! We have a 2 hour Literacy block followed by a Numeracy block after recess and then our Humanities (History) and specialist subjects over the course of the week! We look forward to you visiting our classroom on our Open Afternoon next week!

English

In English we are learning to construct a simple sentence. Year 1 students have been writing about going to school and the Prep students have been making an 'I Go To School' book to take home.  They have been learning about letters, words, sentences, directionality when we read and write, punctuation, spaces between words and matching words to create sentences about what they do at school.

Humanities

In our History topic we are learning about 'Families'. Students will investigate the concept of a family and learn to identify different members of a family and how they are connected. We will look at our Family Trees in the coming weeks and discuss the key question 'What is my history and how do I know?' Here are our Family drawings:

Year One - What we like about school
