Year 7 Music
Our Year 7 musicians have just wrapped up their exciting rock band performances, showcasing their talent and teamwork in style! Each student had the chance to choose an instrument to learn, from guitar, drums, bass guitar, keyboard, or even lead vocals. It was an amazing opportunity for everyone to shine in their roles and experience the thrill of live music.
Now, we’re diving into something new and just as exciting: a class performance of Zombie by The Cranberries! Students will continue to develop their skills as they play guitars, drums, bass guitar, keyboard, and sing together to bring this classic hit to life. It’s the perfect way to build on the teamwork and creativity they've shown so far.
Year 9 Music
Year 9 Music have finished up the year, creating and performing their own Australian Music Compositions. This has been a culmination of approximately 8 weeks work. Year 9 did an amazing job of not only composing a piece of music but creating a performance chart and then performing it. Year 9 didn’t cease to amaze with the quality that they produced. Finishing off the year there have been no breaks for year 9 as quite a few students now set their sights on MADD Night performances preparation.
Year 12 Music
Our Year 12 music students have been hard at work, preparing for their first HSC assessment task! They’ve been refining their performance skills for the Performance Elective, selecting pieces that showcase their talent and musical growth. With each rehearsal, students are developing confidence and technical precision, getting ready for their big performance.
Alongside this, the students are also diving into the Composition componentof the task, on the topic "An Instrument and Its Repertoire." This has given them the opportunity to explore the unique characteristics of a chosen instrument and how to develop a piece of music that is appropriate for that particular instrument. Their compositions are beginning to take shape, with creative ideas flowing as they develop their musical literacy.
We’re excited to see the final results of these projects and can’t wait to celebrate their achievements in the upcoming assessments and MADD Night!

Year 7 Italian Fiesta
The Year 7 Italian classes were buzzing with excitement as they prepared for their Italian Fiesta! Students were busy getting involved in every aspect of the celebration, from preparing delicious Italian food to designing vibrant decorations, invitations, and promotional materials. Creating a true celebration of Italian culture, and loving every moment of it!
A big thank you to Ms. Lewis, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was a memorable experience for everyone. Thanks to her dedication, Year 7 experienced a fun-filled day of authentic Italian food, music, and festivities. Making a fantastic way to immerse themselves in the language and culture while having a wonderful time with their classmates!
The photo's speak for themselves as to how great the day was.
Dance
Year 10 Dance have been working hard learning a new dance and preparing for our MADD Night Performance in Week 8. Extra-curricular Dance have also been busy practicing for Term 4 performances. One group performed last week at the Cessnock Walks Kawuma event for Domestic Violence and represented the school so well, performing in the rain. We can’t wait to see the rest of our Dance Groups perform in MADD Night including Dance Ensemble and other two Extra Curricular Dance groups.
Visual Arts
Stage 5 Visual Design and Art
A huge shout out needs to go to our KKHS Stage 5 Visual Design and Visual Arts students for how well they represented our school on their excursion to the Newcastle Timeless Textile Gallery, Lock-up Gallery, and TAFE gallery recently. We were lucky enough to have 2 of the gallery owners come and speak to the students and one local artist who was setting up her installation, as well as the director of Visual Design and Director of Visual Arts at the Hunter St. TAFE campus. Our students asked well thought out questions and completed some excellent analysis and thumbnail sketches of the artworks at each space. Then got a chance to sit in the park and recreate either their own Cathy Jack Coupland coral reef inspired artwork or a Khalid Sabsabi inspired motif, as these were the featured artists at the exhibits.
Year 8 Visual Arts
This semester, Year 8 Visual Arts students have been exploring personal connections to place through their ceramic art projects. Inspired by the Hermannsburg Potters, students created unique hand-built vessels using the pinch pot technique. Each vessel features intricate toppers and textures that symbolise meaningful locations to them, making their artworks deeply personal and creative.
These vibrant, glazed ceramic pieces showcase the students' artistic growth and their ability to translate personal stories into three-dimensional artworks. Their hard work and creativity have been outstanding this term. Well done, Year 8!
Year 9 Visual Arts
This term, Year 9 Visual Arts students explored the art of ceramics, creating large coil pots inspired by the classical elements of water, earth, fire, and air. Through this project, students learned about the properties of clay and practised the traditional coil-building technique to shape their unique designs. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and cultural traditions, students added textures, patterns, and colours to their pots, showcasing their creativity and personal interpretation of the elements. The finished works highlighted their growing technical skills and artistic confidence.
Congratulations to our Year 9 students for their impressive ceramic creations, which reflect both effort and imagination. We are excited to see their continued growth in Visual Arts next year!
