Sports in Action Report from 7B Publicity Team

In this unit we had to learn how to collaborate and work with our classmates that we weren't as familiar with to play and structure a soccer tournament. To start off, we did a personality test so that our teacher could figure out what we were suited for. After that we found our jobs to run the tournament.

Teams were formed and created as everyone learnt how to contribute to their committees (Jobs). Coaches put their players in positions and the first game was off. From there we learnt how to sideline, keep track of scores and referee. Our three teams took turns versing each other. This kept going throughout the tournament while we started to raise money for presentation day.

By the end, the semi final results consisted of a team with only two wins against the second place team. They pushed through and won to verse a tough number one team. The result was shocking, the team with only two wins managed to win. Giving them number one for presentation day that special rewards and prizes and awards had planned out from day one, being their job.

The presentation was run by the CEO’s and the teacher supplied the food with the money we raised throughout the term.

At first we were allowed to eat and mingle with our peers.

Then we did individual awards for things like: Kindest and fairest and most goals.

Under 14’s Baker Shield Cricket

In Week 3, the Under 14 Boys Cricket team travelled to Cessnock to play two Twenty-20 matches as a part of the Baker Shield competition. The boys managed to win their first game in a nailbiter against Mount View High before being eliminated by West Wallsend High in another close game. Some highlights from the day included a wicket from Noah Dowden in his first ever game of cricket, three catches from Tristan Bailey who was also playing his first game of cricket, and 27 runs in game 1, and 33 not out in game 2 from Arley Howard. With only 9 players on the day the team put in a massive effort to achieve what they did and should be commended for both their efforts and sportsmanship on the day.

Opens Cricket team roll towards Finals

In Week 1, the Open Boys Cricket team played their Round 3 match for the Hunter District knockout competition against Warners Bay at Kurri Central Oval. The team put on a great display with both bat and ball on the day to win their game and progress to the semi-finals. Batting first we finished with 172 runs with Ryley Fitzpatrick scoring 51 runs, Ethan Edgell 33 runs and Tate Wootton-Brydon 30 runs. We than managed to bowl Warners Bay High out for 146 runs with Hudson Carr the pick of the bowlers finishing with 3/33. The team will play their Semi Final matchup against Kotara High School at Kurri Central Oval on December 3rd, with the winner of that game progressing to the Grand Final which will be played at the end of the term.

Open’s Coalfields Touch

The Open’s boys and girls travelled to Maitland to compete in the Coalfields Open gala day. In hot conditions, both teams had a fun day and managed to challenge their opposition with the boy's team coming away with the day, progressing through to the next round of competition early next year. Goodluck to the boys as they compete against other schools in the region.

Rugby League

We had all age groups compete in 9’s Gala Day early this term with all boys playing hard and representing Kurri Kurri High School at a high standard.

During S.P.O.R.T squad training sessions, we have had the pleasure of working with Ethan from Steel City Performance. He has been helping our young athletes improve their sprinting technique and explosive movement.
