Year 9 Excel in Timed Essay Task

Year 9 students recently completed a significant milestone in their studies of English (having transitioned to new curriculum this year), writing a timed essay on Ziggy Ramo’s Little Things. In preparation for this task, students honed their understanding of essay structure, learning how to craft strong introductions, cohesive arguments, and insightful conclusions. They also practiced taking effective planning notes, ensuring they could organise their thoughts when under the additional pressure of time. During the assessment, all students demonstrated exceptional maturity by adhering to exam protocols and maintaining focus throughout the session. Their essays revealed a deep engagement with the themes of Little Things, showcasing their ability to critically analyse poetry. This task not only highlighted their growing skills as analytical writers but also their commitment to academic excellence. Well done to our Year 9 students for their hard work and dedication.

Year 12 Begin Their HSC Journey

Our Year 12 students have begun engaging with the newfound challenges of their HSC year, building skills to meet the rigors of advanced study. They have embraced additional lunchtime sessions, using this time to strengthen their understanding and refine their analytical skills – it has been nice to see so many students using their time to excel in our subject. As they prepare for their first assessment task, students are learning to independently select appropriate related material that aligns with their prescribed texts, a vital component of the HSC English syllabus. This process will culminate in an essay written under timed conditions, testing their ability to think critically and express ideas clearly. Parents can support their child’s success by encouraging regular practice, discussing their text choices, and fostering an environment conducive to study at home.

A reminder that the study centre is open in the library before and after school and our English support sessions are every Monday in the Common Room (Week A Lunch 1, Week B Lunch 2).
