Writer’s Notebook Covers

Dear Families,

This year students will be using a Writer’s Notebook as an important part of our Literacy program.

A Writer’s Notebook is a special space where students collect ideas, experiment with language and develop their voice as authors. It is not just a workbook - it is a place for thinking, noticing and growing as a writer.

In Writer’s Notebooks, students will:

  • Record ideas for future stories and writing pieces
  • Experiment with different writing styles and genres
  • Respond to prompts, images and discussion topics
  • Collect interesting words, phrases and observations.

To help students feel a sense of ownership and pride in their notebook, we will be encouraging them to decorate the front cover. This might include photos, drawings, stickers, magazine cut-outs or images that reflect their interests, passions, culture, hobbies or important parts of their identity. The aim is for each notebook to represent the individual writer inside, see examples below.

If your child would like to bring personal photos or small decorative items they would like to include on their cover, we are asking that they bring these along next week in preparation for our whole school ‘Writer’s Notebook Cover Day’ which will be next Friday 20th February, 2026.

All decorations should be school appropriate and able to fit comfortably on an A4 cover.

We are excited to see students express themselves creatively and develop confidence in their writing. A strong connection to their notebook often leads to greater engagement and enjoyment in the writing process.

If you have any further questions about this, do not hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

2026 Camps, Sports & Excursions Fund (CSEF)

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps eligible families to cover the costs of school camps, sporting activities and excursions. If you have a valid means-tested concession card such as a Centrelink Health Care, Pensioner Concession Card or Veterans Affairs Gold Card, you may be eligible.

Payment amounts are $400 per student and are made directly to school for expenses relating to camps, excursions and sporting activities for the benefit of your child. Please note that funds are not interchangeable between students in the same family and unspent funds follow students to secondary school.

If you received CSEF in 2025 we've already applied on your behalf. If you would like to make a new application for 2026, please contact the school office on Fyans.Park.PS@education.vic.gov.au or 5221 3772 asap. 2026 applications close on 26th June.

Asthma / Allergy / Anaphylaxis Action Plans

If your child has asthma, allergic reactions or anaphylaxis, government legislation requires that you provide us with a current Action Plan (examples below).  Please visit your medical practitioner annually for an up to date Action Plan and provide a copy to school.

Your child should have a supply of their medication in the Sick Bay to manage their symptoms.  If your medical practitioner has informed you that your child has grown out of their condition, we require written confirmation stating such.

Thank you for your cooperation.

2026 Update:

In addition to the existing EpiPen and AnaPen, there are two new treatments now available for anaphylaxis - the Jext pen and Neffy nasal spray.  A How to Use visual is included below.

Compass Tips

Would parents please not add Attendance Notes when students are arriving after 9am or departing before 3.30pm.  Staff members do not see the parent comments written on these notes so an email via Compass is a great way to convey any extra details. The kiosk at Reception is to be used to sign/in out as this marks the roll and we know exactly who is on-site in case of emergency.

Thanks so much for your cooperation.

QKR! App - Student Updates

Would families please update their student's profiles to reflect their 2026 year level and new classroom?  Otherwise things like Special Food Day orders will go to their previous classroom.

New students can also be added via Profiles --> Add Profile tab.

Thank you.
