Louise Humann Library and Resource Centre
What a busy start to the year of 2026 in the library for staff and students. Over the holidays we had many boxes of textbooks delivered, which meant that the library staff have been super busy cataloguing and covering more than 500 books in readiness for the academic year. After extensive consultation, staff have requested hard copies of textbooks to ensure that all students and their learning styles are catered for. The Health and PE, Humanities, Science and Maths learning areas have all benefited from these resources as they begin their classes this term. Students also have access to the digital versions on their laptops.
Thanks to the library team of Donna Davidson, Erin Gaze and Ariene Start for their work in this area.
Library lessons are up and running in the junior English classes, with Jo explaining, and demonstrating the resources available at the library and how to access them. Our new students have been learning how to search for their favourite books and access other resources. A slide from the presentation given to the new Year 7 students is below, explaining the role of the library here at Marist-Sion.
The colourful displays are also up and have promoted a lot of discussion – particularly the ‘Love your Library’ February display and the sparkly ‘Blueback’ display for the year 7 novel. Students have been marvelling at the colourful display of the big blue fish that greets them when they walk into the library, thanks to Erin for her creative work with the displays.
A new student leadership initiative has been introduced this year with our Library Monitors and Ambassadors beginning their weekly shifts and tasks in the library. The talented students have relished their new positions and are fulfilling their roles and responsibilities in the library. In next month's Emmaus you will hear from the students and how they see their new roles.
A reminder that the library is open from 8:00am every morning and we are open until 4:30pm, students can complete homework and get assistance from the Learning Support Team.
