Wellbeing – Connection and Belonging
The Year 7 students have made a wonderful start to their journey at Marist-Sion, settling into College life with enthusiasm, curiosity and a growing sense of confidence. Over their first days, students have been warmly welcomed into the community, building new friendships, meeting their teachers and learning the routines that will support them throughout the year. It has been a joy to see their positive energy, pride in wearing their new uniforms, and willingness to embrace the many opportunities that life at Marist-Sion has to offer.
Next week they will take a break from the classroom during connection week, using visits to Gumbuya world and Camp Rumbug to foster deeper connections with their peers and their teachers.
Whether it is starting school for the first time, moving up to a higher grade or embarking on a journey through secondary school, there is no doubt that any school transition is a very exciting time for children and parents. It means your children are growing up!
However, transitioning is an ongoing process. It can continue long after students have entered their new environment and may encounter difficulties at a number of different stages. These stressors may appear as anxiety and frustration and result in negative or disruptive behaviours. Such behaviours can become problematic making the transitioning process even more difficult for children and parents.
Our school has partnered with SchoolTV – a trusted resource that prioritises student mental health and wellbeing. This weeks episode has a special report on navigating transitions for all students.

Child Safety and Wellbeing – Bus Travel
Many of our College community rely heavily on the College and public bus services for student transportation to and from the College.
Recently, I have had to address issues of safety on the bus. Students have been reminded the College expectations include travel to and from school, regardless of if they are on a public or private bus.
This also includes students who use the Warragul Regional College Bus Loop. Students have been reminded that they are not to walk through this loop. This loop is a bus interchange only.
Students who fail to meet the College’s expectations may be removed from the bus service for a period of time. I encourage all parents and guardians to speak with their children about appropriate behaviour and expectations while travelling on the bus, as removal from the service can make school arrangements more challenging for families.
Where to access support?
The College has a support network for all students to assist in managing their mental health and wellbeing. Students are encouraged to seek wellbeing support from the Counselling and Wellbeing Services Team. A team of counsellors are available five days a week to meet with students and families.
Additional support is available by contacting Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636, Lifeline on 13 11 14, Parentline Victoria on 13 22 89 or Kids Helpline on 1800 551 800.
