We are delighted to share the news of an inspiring visit to St. Margaret Mary's School by the talented author, Julia Parkes. Our Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4 students were treated to an enjoyable reading session of her captivating book, "Why Can't We Go to Mars for a Holiday?”.
Julia shared the fascinating journey behind her book. She revealed that her son's keen interest in the planets served as the spark that ignited her imagination. Her daughter also played a role, offering valuable feedback on the inclusion of pinpoints in the map illustrations, enriching the visual storytelling experience for readers.
Julia also provided insights into the intricate process of publishing a book, shedding light on the dedication and perseverance required to bring a story to life. She discussed various literary techniques used in her book, particularly highlighting the use of rhyme and alliteration, which charm the young minds of her readers.
Excitingly, Julia shared news about her upcoming literary ventures, eagerly awaiting the publication of not one, but two new books titled "A Cow as a Pet" and "A Giraffe as a Pet". Additionally, she hinted at the possibility of writing a historical fiction novel about time travel, showcasing her boundless creativity and imagination.
The sessions concluded with an engaging question time, where our curious students had the opportunity to interact with Julia, asking insightful questions about her writing process, inspirations, and future projects.
