DONATION THANK YOU

We recently received a new picture book for our students titledIt’s OK to Just Be Yourself by Jules Elizabeth and illustrated by Pablo D’AlioI’d like to thank the person who donated it to the school for our students to enjoy (they dropped it off at the office!). This picture book is a lovely gentle story about self-acceptance. A young boy has a fear of fitting in because he is different to everybody else. He is curious about his new neighbour and his neighbour’s quirky friends, and he soon discovers that it’s perfectly ok to just be yourself. I love picture books that encourage children to learn and grow. This book is certain to open discussions, build confidence and acceptance of others and hopefully encourage children to embrace their own uniqueness. Thank you for the donation.

MOTHER'S DAY

There was great excitement around the school this week with many students attending the Mother’s Day Stall to choose a gift for a special person. Mother’s Day for me is simply spending time together and given the chance, relaxing with a good book! This Sunday you might like to celebrate Mother’s day with a great picture book! Here are a few of my Mother’s Day favourites:-

My Mum by Anthony Browne

From the blurb “She's nice, my mum . . . My mum's a fantastic cook, and a brilliant juggler. She's a great painter, and the strongest woman in the world! She's really nice, my mum.” A warm, funny tribute to Mum’s everywhere by the brilliant author/illustrator Anthony Browne.

Piggybook by Anthony Browne

Everybody should read this book it has a great message about sharing the workload at home! You might turn into little piggies if you don’t!

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch

This is my absolute favourite picture book for all the mums and grandmothers to share amongst yourselves. I don’t often hug too many picture books but when I first read this picture book I hugged it!  It is a sentimental, thought provoking, powerful picture book full of meaning. A simple text that shares a message of never-ending love for your child. Just wonderful!

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! Embrace the power of reading!
