I Sea I Care

I Sea I Care

Hi it’s Evie, Will, Toby and Bronagh, your I Sea I Care ambassadors for 2024. On Wednesday the 13th of March we went on excursion to swim with dolphins, seals and weedy sea dragons. The dolphins swam right next to us and we got to see them up close there was a calf so we weren't allowed to swim with them but we were allowed to swim with seals and weedy sea dragons. The dolphins swam right next to us on the boat and started swimming around us.

There were two types of dolphins the common dolphins and bottle nose dolphins. We saw a lot of dolphins swimming near us some on their own and some in groups of two and three. A highlight of it was a dolphin came right up close and almost touched my hand. We saw a calf a baby dolphin swimming right up next to its mum.

Minty was the very adorable boat dog. Minty was a 1-year-old kelpie. She was really fun as she kept jumping up onto the chairs licking and annoying us. Just before we left there was a golden retriever that minty tried to jump of the boat to greet. Getting on a boat and swimming with dolphins was not all we did seals are a big part of the I Sea I Care.

From the first five minutes of being on the boat we saw a seal. When we went to swim with the seals there were two mail seals fighting. It was truly an amazing experience. We were lucky because we snorkelled with the Weedy Sea Dragons. They are really good at camouflaging in the seaweed.

The Sea Dragons move slowly and gracefully in between the weeds on the bottom of the seabed. The Sea Dragon is the Victorian State Marine Emblem. We were excited and happy to spot one while we were exploring Port Phillip Bay. We need to protect them as they are becoming near threatened.
