Donation of Library Books to 123Read2Me

Recently, the Kilvington Library team was delighted to be able to donate deselected books from the library to 123Read2Me.

123Read2Me provides children in low socioeconomic communities with free quality children’s books, either through recycled books or new ones purchased with cash donations.

A mix of picture books, fiction and nonfiction books that the Library no longer required can now have a second life, bringing the joy of literature to those in need.

Here's what 123Read2Me had to say about the donation:

'A heartfelt thank you to Kilvington for their generous donation of children’s books! Your commitment to literacy and education shines brightly and we are so grateful for your support. These books will bring joy and learning to so many children. Together, we are opening doors to new adventures and possibilities.'

Lighthouse Foundation

Last week, Kilvington launched its Cut Out Youth Homelessness Campaign, with our Year 12s sleeping out for this great cause on the night of Friday 3 May to raise funds for the Lighthouse Foundation.

Donations will go towards providing vulnerable young people with the basics in life that we take for granted such as regular warm meals, clothes and toiletries. We encourage everyone to donate here

We also had the good fortune to have Dr Eamonn McCarthy, the Lighthouse Foundation’s CEO, address our Year 12s about the plight of homeless youth. He said, ‘We’re thrilled that Kilvington Grammar School is participating in this important state-wide schools campaign called Cut Out Youth Homelessness.’

Also in attendance was Mayor Anne-Marie Cade (City of Glen Eira), and local MPs, Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah MP and Zoe Daniel.

Safe Steps - Fundraising Against Domestic Violence

Jon Williams, Deputy Head of Senior School

Recent events have sparked conversations about the role we play as educators in raising awareness about the issue of violence against women and family violence, and promoting a positive, safe, inclusive culture for all.

When it comes to violence, the only acceptable number is zero. As passionate educators, Meg Talbot and I have launched a fundraising campaign to support a charity called Safe Steps, dedicated to assisting families impacted by violence. Every donation will directly contribute to providing essential resources, support services, and advocacy efforts for survivors of domestic violence and abuse.

We are committing to swimming on average one kilometre a day in May. If you're able to, please click here to support our campaign, and donate generously.

Parent Career Panels

In 2023 and 2024, the School has successfully run Parent Career Panels to support our senior students in preparation for subject selection and career consideration. Our students find these sessions very helpful as they navigate the often tricky process of deciding pathways post Kilvington.

We are seeking parents with experience in defence and emergency services including, police, fire fighters and aviation (pilots, air traffic controllers, engineers).

The panel will run at the School later in the year from 12.00 to 12.40pm.

We invite parents from these sectors to submit an expression of interest to participate. Ideally, there will be three parents representing a role in their sector.

Andrew Johnson, our Careers Counsellor, will act as mediator and is also the contact if you are interested in participating. Please contact Andrew for further information via johnsona@kilvington.vic.edu.au.
