Literacy

Reading is a cornerstone skill that lays a foundation for all later learning. Without it, students are denied the access to higher education.

As part of our commitment to evidence-informed instructional approaches at Sacred Heart, we like to be actively involving families in our teaching practices. We understand that it's not the role of families to teach children to read, but we recognize the value of families spending quality time together exploring literature and supporting reading using decodable texts.

Our aim is to empower families with the right strategies, exemplified in our reading at home video. This demonstration uses connected phonation (the production of sounds) to ensure families use similar cues at home when reading with their child. This demonstration, often at the sentence level, is designed for fluency repetition, offering quick, simple guidance for our families. At Sacred Heart we believe that this video is invaluable when witnessed in action.

A special thank you to Georgia in Prep M - our superstar reader.
