We are 1/2N!

Hello Families!

Welcome back to Term 2 in 1/2N. The students have returned with a sense of  positivity and full of energy. We started our term with an exciting excursion to CERES in Brunswick, where we engaged in the Zero Waste Program. The children enjoyed learning about fun and innovative ways to rethink, refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and rot! Our guides Kate and Duncan shared their passion and expertise throughout all the different activities.

A highlight was the scavenger hunt where we went in search of of natural materials in the gardens. Some students found fungus, worms, spiders, flowers and even snails! Many overcame their worries of holding strange and unusual creatures when offered the opportunity to hold a worm. We learnt about how worms reproduce and what foods they eat, how to create worm wee and compost for our gardens.

Along the Merri Creek Trail, we learnt about the history of CERES and how, many years ago, it used to be a local waste tip before students from surrounding schools decided to make a change. By the creek, we also got to see the way rubbish is collected through the drains in surrounding areas and sifted out. This ensures the rubbish does not flow into Merri Creek and impact local wildlife.
