School Council News

School Council met on Tuesday 23rd April, and welcomed our newest member, Pande Jovanovski. We thank Pande for putting his hand up to fill the final vacancy, offering his time and experience, to help support our great school.

This month we also invited two very special guests to join us at School Council. Our 2024 School Captains, Lucy and Jarvis, came to share some of the thoughts and ideas they have developed alongside their fellow JSC members so far this year. It was inspiring to hear the depth of their discussions and the array of innovative ideas presented! From internal and external improvements, to community projects and fundraising endeavours, their presentation showcased the remarkable capacity and vision of our young leaders. We look forward to seeing what our JSC members can achieve together this year, and it is certain that our Willy Kids are in great hands with these two wonderful leaders guiding the way.

Mat Montebello provided a thorough update through his Principal report, and also presented the School’s Annual Report. It was a great opportunity to look back over 2023 and celebrate our achievements, with key highlights from our 150th Anniversary Celebrations, the school review process, positive data sets and progress towards our strategic goals, student outcomes and student engagement. The Annual Report will be tabled at our Annual General Meeting next month, where we welcome members from the school community to attend. More information to come.

2025 Prep enrolments are now open and we are excited to welcome new families into our community with the upcoming Information Night and School Tours. We are thrilled that our special JSC guests, Lucy and Jarvis, will be helping to run these tours, and we are confident they will prove to be wonderful ambassadors and provide a great insight as to life at Williamstown Primary.

The Education Policy Sub-Committee advised that several policies will undergo review this year, and community input will be sought. We encourage all parents and carers to actively participate in this process by sharing their thoughts and suggestions. Watch out for notices via the newsletter and Compass for opportunities to contribute.

The Buildings & Grounds report outlined the comprehensive procurement process for the junior quad development work, and further discussions were held around the re-development of the junior toilets. Council wishes to thank our families for the fundraising efforts that will go towards these developments and upgrades, along with your voluntary contributions to the building fund. Your ongoing support is vital to these improvements and is very much appreciated.

School Council’s next meeting will be held, after our AGM, on Tuesday 21st May.
