From Our Principals

Book Week
Book Week is always a wonderful time of year at Scoresby Primary School! It’s a favourite week of the year, when we celebrate books, reading and our love for the characters that we form in our heads, endure with us, sometimes for a lifetime!
Throughout Book Week, our students will have the opportunity to celebrate some of their favourite books and authors through a range of fun and engaging activities. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to discover new stories, share their favourite books with friends and experience the joy that comes from getting lost in a great book.
One of the highlights of the week will be our Book Week Parade, (9am tomorrow) where students can dress up as their favourite book character. We look forward to seeing the creativity and imagination of our students as they bring their favourite characters to life.
A big thank you to Jenny Clarke for coordinating our Book Week Book Fair, and lunchtime sharing of the Children’s Book Council Award books for this year.
Book Week is also an important reminder of the many benefits of reading.
Reading is a powerful habit that:
strengthens your brain
builds vocabulary
lowers stress
expands your knowledge
improves memory
boosts focus
sparks creativity
teaches empathy
aids better sleep
supports lifelong personal growth
Happy Book Week, everyone!
Keep reading, keep imagining and keep discovering!
Letters to Politicians
Our school council president Sarah Richards has put together two excellent letters and sent them on behalf of the Scoresby Primary School Council to new local Labor politician - Dr Shahbaz, and new Labor Education Minister -Gabrielle Williams.
The message in the letters clearly sets out the good work our school is doing and puts forward a strong request for a major upgrade of our main building for our students and staff, to better meet the educational needs of our school community. They also put forward a request for our fair share of investment, as other schools around us have benefitted from in the past few years.
Similar letters have also been sent to the Liberal candidate for Rowville - Max Williams, federal Labour candidate - Mary Doyle and Victorian Labour member for the Victorian Legislative Assembly - Michael Galea.
The letters outline that;
Scoresby Primary is a small but important local school serving families across Scoresby and the surrounding community for more than 150 years. While our school community is incredibly proud of our school, the condition of our main building, constructed in 1972 and largely unchanged since, has reached a point where significant investment is required beyond what the school's maintenance budget can reasonably address.
As a wonderful and supportive school community, it’s time for you to get involved! You are our greatest advocates!
As we are heading into the Victorian election period, I am urging our community to take the opportunity to help Scoresby PS Council in their endeavours to improve facilities at our school. This can be easily done by talking or writing to your preferred local politicians about our situation. The noisier we are as a community the more focus we can have on our plight for an upgrade. If you would like to read the letters, please pop in and see me. They are a very good read!
I’d like to take the opportunity to thank Sarah for her work and advocacy of Scoresby Primary School.
New Agreement for DE Employee
On Monday, the Department of Education was informed by the Australian Education Union (AEU) that its members voted in support of the revised Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) offer made on Monday 10 August 2026. This means the department and the AEU have now reached an in-principle agreement. The department will now facilitate formal voting on the agreement for all Victorian Government teaching service employees. Further advice on the next steps of the process will be communicated soon. |
Buildings and Grounds
Peace Poles
Our Peace Poles have arrived and will be installed before the end of term. We are working on getting this done now. Every year, International Peace Day - September 21st is celebrated and we’d like to have a ceremony commemorating World Peace around our new Peace Poles before this date. It will be before this actual date as it falls in the school holidays this year.
HEART Garden
We have accepted the quote, and plans are coming along for the new garden. Members of the Scoresby PS SRC will be painting the facades with me, which have been kindly made by the Rowville Men’s Shed. We will be writing letters of thanks to them once the work is complete.
We are also painting a small fence paling each to go around our garden. Each student and staff member will be painting a paling which will form small fences on the corners of our new garden. This work is being overseen by our art teacher Karen Coster – thanks Karen for leading this project.
